Now posting without the link. We should try to get this to 10,000 signatures.

It would really backfire on the left if they made racism a crime. Prisons would be full of anti-semites and critical race theorists.

That's the dream. 🤣🤣🤣

Signed. Thank you.

Why do you think that? Critical Race Theory is an academical understanding of racism in society. It isn’t the same as Baz the plumber from Rotherham who calls somebody a racial slur because he’s a racist.

lcakethereforeIam · 12/01/2025 18:30

Classist much!?

Interesting little sketch of the sort of person you think might be racist. I guess classism is not one of those "things like" racism or Islamophobia?

Not worried about class stereotyping then.

People have no problem pointing out that middle class people are up their own arse or absolutely undeservedly cock sure of themselves (which is untrue we are actually really nice)

Sorry, you've lost me. Which "people"? And how does that comment relate to your "Baz from Rotherham"?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 12/01/2025 18:46

I'd take someone who's a qualified plumber over a grifter academic who's qualified in claptrap any day. You don't happen to have his number do you I'm looking for someone to do work in my bathroom. 🤣

lcakethereforeIam · 12/01/2025 18:57

I knew a middle class person who seemed nice enough at first but would say stupid stuff to get a reaction. Wound up alienating all her friends. Not thought of her for years. Wonder what she's doing now?

GailBlancheViola · 12/01/2025 19:04

Ah that poster doesn't think Baz the Plumber nor any builders, electricians or hairdressers should be allowed to vote, especially so if they live in the North of England.

Heggettypeg · 12/01/2025 19:12

If HappyPanda613 means people in general rather than people on this thread, they do have a point. I wish I'd had a tenner for every time I've heard or read "middle class" being used as though it automatically invalidates everything a person thinks, says or does. Quite often it's used by people who would be down your throat straight away about any other kind of "-ism"!

Classist insults in the other direction seem to get a pretty free pass too. Some people call them out, but using them doesn't seem to attract the same level of condemnation as racism or ableism, for example.

The correct comparator for Baz the Plumber who uses racial slurs is not Critical Race Theory itself but Baz the Critical Race Theorist who talks about "Karens" and "gammons", uses "white feminist" as a term of abuse, makes sweeping negative generalisations about "Western culture", and exhorts white people to "be less white".

FranticFrankie · 12/01/2025 19:42

HappyPanda613 · 12/01/2025 15:36

If you had any idea of the true insidiousness that comes with things like racism and Islamophobia, you’d be calling for longer sentences than that. At least with crimes like assault and murder, they happen once and can be over in seconds, with racism that is something that permeates society for even longer, and cuts deeply into communities. It’s time we take these matters seriously as a country, before it’s too late.

Are you serious? Assaults and murder are not always ‘over in seconds’ - any reading of real crimes would tell you that
What about the bereaved? What about the victims of assaults who continue to suffer afterwards; mental and physical scars, ptsd???
And ‘hurty words’ are worse than that?
I really find this short/sighted and very offensive

Sorry, @Signalbox , I meant to link @HappyPanda613 's post there, not yours. I'm still fairly new to posting and haven't got the hang of some things yet.

LastTrainsEast · 12/01/2025 20:02

If you can be reported and a record made that harms you later which you don't even know about then what is the purpose of the NCHI?

You punish someone to deter them from doing it again, but this can't work it you don't know.

So recording an NCHI against someone secretly can have no effect on online behaviour.

So this becomes a means to harm someone who has not committed a crime while you hide behind your anonymity.

Barr77 · 12/01/2025 20:50

@HappyPanda613 is a troll and does not post in good faith. Please ignore.

@HappyPanda613 has popped up on a fee AIBU thread around the grooming scandal and was tackled for claiming:-

  • ”it’s not possible to be racist against white people"
  • For making spurious claims trying to link Lord of the Rings with the far right
  • Who claimed “…actually white people who should be asking the Pakistani community what we should be doing to stop sexual abuse in our own community…”again not good faith
  • General sneering at the working class
  • And now gleefully welcoming the suggestion of 10 year prison sentences along with requests to ban Facebook and X

Is that you Dominic Cummings here to stir up trouble? I doubt the trolling would be quite as obvious or clumsy though.

Can I record a non-hate crime for finding them annoying?

Strange how a few screen shots have appeared on X showing how
awful Mumsnet posters are…

Well, they can stick this on X:

"I knew that danger lay ahead, of course, but I did not expect to meet it in our own Shire..."

"But it is not your own Shire," said Gildor. "Others dwelt here before hobbits were; and others will dwell here again when hobbits are no more. The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.'

(The Fellowship of the Ring, chapter 3)

Oh dear - we seem to have got a long way from NCHIs, don't we? But perhaps not. Some people seem to think Tolkien Should Be Reported, some don't. Which just goes to show (yet again) that perceptions are subjective.

GailBlancheViola · 13/01/2025 16:30

I'm musing how it will go down with all the BAME plumbers, electricians, hairdressers, electricians, lorry drivers, etc., who live in the North of England when HappyPanda613 tells them that they are having their suffrage removed because they don't meet that poster's arbitrary educational standards.

I'd definitely pay to see that.

Heggettypeg · 14/01/2025 20:15

Not sure how to link to another thread on this board (help, anybody?), but I've just seen one about places where up to 89 per cent of violent and sexual crimes are going unsolved. And the police are expected to faff about, spending time on Non Crimes!

Incidentally the petition is now over 21,000 signatures, so is well over the 10k threshold to be eligible for a government response; if it gets 100,000 before late June it is also eligible for debate in Parliament. Whether it would get any sense out of them, goodness knows, but I guess it's worth a try, if only to show that people are unimpressed with this wasteful and Orwellian nonsense.

lcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2025 13:40

We're over a fifth of the way to getting a debate. It's easy for me to say because MN is the only social media I really use, but please share it. The link to the thread with the link to the petition is at the top of page 1 of this thread. Obviously, don't get yourself in trouble or (thank you, KierHmm) labelled far right. Share it on Facebook, twitter (currently know as X), in the comments of appropriate YouTubes, in the comments of pertinent newspaper articles if you can, ie. have a subscription, with friends and family. You can reassure people that it is a Government petition and all signatures are completely anonymised and confidential.

There's a government response to this petition now; it's shown on the petition website.

On page 1 of this thread, follow the link to the original Mumsnet petition thread.
At the top of that thread there's a link to the actual petition.
