This article on Wikipedia about Wi Spa is slightly biased!

Bloody hell, even after the reveal that he's a known sex offender, they're /still/ trying to trans-wash the incident. I mean brave attempt as it is such a blatant example of exactly what we said would happen if you opened women's spaces to anyone who says they want to come in.

Good spot. And this is why we don't get our news from Wikipedia. Given the blatant biases, I don't think I'm going to believe anything in that article, so does anyone know was the man convicted over the incident in the end or is it still ongoing?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/01/2025 23:16

Wikipedia is awful.

SuperSleepyBaby · 05/01/2025 23:23

Who knows if this source is good as i never heard of it but it says the trial is listed for this February.

I think Owen Jones himself has admitted to changing over a thousand entries on Wikipedia.
It's why universities don't accept Wikipedia as "research".
Because it's not.

He was obsessed with monitoring threads about Israel, I've seen it documented before.

Wikipedia is awful.

It is in places. I don't use it for social issues etc. It is useful for finding historical references which are otherwise difficult to find. This is thoroughly annoying because they are so TWAW.
But it's USian. What can one expect when the US is so captured?
All I can do is avoid using them.

Runor · 06/01/2025 13:35

Just edit it!

SuperSleepyBaby · 06/01/2025 14:22

I’m guessing there is people with an interest that would re-edit it - i dont have the time to keep changing it. The Wikipedia entry is one of the top results on google for this matter.

I'm afraid any attempts to factually correct the article would be immediately countered by some Wikipedia admins/power users.

The names of the people (especially women) who denounced the situation are featured in the article. The name of the abuser, Darren Agee Merager, is nowhere to be found - a life-long criminal and thief who was flagged by police as a sexual exhibitionist who attempted to use his crossdressing fetish as an excuse for sexually exposing himself to women and girls, had previously been expelled from Wi Spa for sexual misconduct and was only able to get in again because there was some sort of fail of the part of Wi Spa.

He later claimed he wasn't erect at all while in the jacuzzi - he just happens to have a larger than average p*nis.

"Evan" Urquhart is cited as a source exculpating Darren's past sexual crimes, claiming his necessity to engage in "sex work" as a "trans woman" was what led him to be charged of sex crimes - even though these were actually sexual exhibitionism towards women and girls.

Strangely enough, Vanessa Urquhart also had this to say about the "transing" of lesbian butch women (though Vanessa has hardly ever "butch") - https://slate.com/human-interest/2014/07/a-butch-lesbian-rejects-a-non-binary-identity.html

But then Vanessa turned into "Evan".

This cannot be made up.

Why I’m Still a Butch Lesbian

I first began wearing men's clothing a few years ago, because I thought that looking like a lesbian might help me get girls. Once I'd started, I...

I am amazed that any sentient being regards Wikipedia as a credible source of non-factual information. Here is the Wikipedia page on Gender Critical Feminism:

That gender critical one is also painful

This is my highlight, from the article about Beira's place, some men discussing how the referral to JK Rowling isn't nasty enough. I've bolded a few choice bits:

FWIW I don't think that's anywhere near "maximally other side" or that it's going too far at all. I don't even think YFNS's version is maximally anti-Rowling (and support something like it). Maximally anti-Rowling would be something like:
“Beira's Place is a transphobic organization founded and exclusively funded by well-known TERF J.K. Rowling. It falsely describes itself as a "woman only service" but does not hire or provide services to transgender women. While it was allegedly founded to support survivors of sexual violence, Rowling has admitted it was in fact founded out of spite against remarks critical of transphobia by Edinburgh Rape Crisis CEO Mridul Wadhwa.”
That's the actual other end of the scale. (And that's only sticking roughly to the facts and a mostly-Wikipedia-compatible tone. Absent those restrictions I could have done even worse.) Comparatively speaking, what you've written as the other end of the scale is extremely tame. Loki(talk) 02:06, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

You have a fair point. I guess I'm holding back a bit because it's one of those things where Rowling has to some extent insulated herself: Saying that she's bad for funding a rape crisis centre looks bad, but she also makes it clear this is for very bad reasons. I enjoy reading the talk page behind the articles. Some of the comments are absolutely batshit.

Also interesting that the same few names pop up on any article connected to GC feminism in some way.

GCITC · 07/01/2025 00:21

On JK Rowling, Arbeiten8 writes...

"Rowling is the textbook definition of what is transphobia. She has
#Misgendered trans people
#Misgendered cis people who she perceived as the wrong gender like India Willoughby
#Authored the book Troubled Blood & The Silkworm claiming that trans women are supervillains wanting to rape women casting "trans women as a threat" according to GLAAD"

Cis people....like India Willoughby??? Confused

Who describes it as "vaginism"? Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/01/2025 18:58

I've been around the block on this a long time, and I have never once heard the term "vaginism" used, even by the most batshittest of the batshit genderist activists.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/01/2025 18:58

Suspect it's this man's own unique coinage.

SinnerBoy · 07/01/2025 19:03

I strongly suspect that, too.
