Thanks! I see on Twix there have already been complaints about the speakers

borntobequiet · 30/12/2024 18:35

I really really want to go to this, but need to check commitments first.

I laughed my head off

Same lot are having a right whinge on about this in their Reddit hugboxes as well

CompleteGinasaur · 30/12/2024 18:43

Well. I know that all of TRA Oxford will rise up with a terrifying, head tilted chorus of shrieking outrage to get them deplatformed pronto, but to even get them on the platform in the first place is surely an amazing step forward? You go, girls.

DungsWearingHarpy · 30/12/2024 18:43

I saw some twitter cry of "I'll sue!" (a screenshot, I'm not on twitter). And more claims of "anti-trans activist" from threads, who also think she is on the payroll of Opus Dei and involved in all sorts. Oh Helen, how could you :) I'm buying a ticket anyway, can't wait

I heard Helen has her own albino monk who goes around violently misgendering anyone who seeks the Holy Grail

fabricstash · 30/12/2024 19:16

Booked by ticket- lower level already sold out

MyCatIsTheHeadChef · 30/12/2024 19:17

Thanks for flagging this! I have just bought a ticket and am looking forward to a nice overnighter in Oxford. Professor Garry Francione introduces the session also which is a bit exciting because I have read alot of his philosophical musings on legal rights for animals. So I get to fangirl over Helen, Julie and Gary!

They're hoping the cricket kids turn up, with Baker I expect.

DPotter · 30/12/2024 19:30

Thanks for the heads up - ticket booked!
see you there!

As a fellow atheist Irish woman, I resent this lazy attempt at such sectarian stereotyping of the brilliantly intelligent and eloquent Helen Joyce. Yes, we come from a majority (formerly very theocratic) Catholic country but that does not mean that, as Irish women, we don’t have the brains, principles and independence that let us think for ourselves. Many Irish women (and men) support Helen and other GC activists.

This reputation savaging is a combination of the daft idea that women are too stupid to organise on our own (so we always have to have shadowy male backers secretly running everything) with our detractors having reading one too many Dan Brown novels 🙄

Going on my own so if any vipers fancy saying hello... Might also go to another talk too

I will be there. Wearing very subtle dino earrings and a less subtle suffragette scarf (that i bought for myself yesterday).

meet you all later at the pub? (There must be a pub surely). Grin

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 30/12/2024 20:06

The comment from Tess Hall in the Twix screenshot is totally unhinged, I wish I could go, it's sounds like it will be an interesting festival. 😊

themostspecialelfintheworkshop · 30/12/2024 20:06

Helen is so fabulously intelligent and articulate. I was cheered to see all the good seats have already sold out (even though this means I'll be in the rubbish seats). (edited to add, sorry crosspost but still yay at so many booking tickets!)

Wow, that's insane, they really are the most unhinged generation ever. 😮

What legal grounds do they think they have for taking action I wonder.
