Freedom of Information requests about SEEN and Mumsnet

Dozens of requests to various public sector bodies asking about SEEN Networks and MN posts made by employees.

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1hobn9b/seen_network/

"There's been discussion here previously of the Sex Equality and Equity Network (SEEN). I've been using Freedom of Information requests to investigate this group's activities, particularly in the Civil Service (where they seem to have originated), and thought people might be interested in what I've learned."

Seems that this requestor is on a mission to unmask heretics.

Wow, absolute mic drop. Well done whoever wrote that!

Beautiful. So much for the vexatious requester's arrogant telegraphing of their intended 'get around'.

This particularly aggressive brand of activist has grown so used to bullying others into compliance that being told (in far more eloquent terms) to go and play elsewhere and take your friends with you must really burn.

Kudos to the author!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/01/2025 15:48

Nicely done whoever wrote that 👏

Tamarafinklestein · 07/01/2025 15:53

Ironic that the internal reviewer has used the requester social media posts as a source there.

PepeParapluie · 07/01/2025 15:59

Thanks for sharing, have been watching this thread with interest and the response to the review was a very satisfying read!

ArabellaScott · 07/01/2025 16:13

That's a novel way of spelling 'fuck off'.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/01/2025 16:24

Wow! Well done DEFRA. Long overdue for organisations to use the famous Mumsnet complete sentence to the vexatious whiners - NO!

WeeWigglet · 07/01/2025 16:53

Tamarafinklestein · 07/01/2025 15:53

It's brilliant. They might as well have written 'We can all play those silly games love!'

Oh if only Laura would channel those tenacious, investigative powers into something productive...

With bells on and sugar icing.
They have also made it clear they regard the topic as closed no matter what name people apply under.
Glorious

I ❤whoever drew up that list in such glorious and revealing detail!Smile

Yes, I particularly enjoyed them copy and pasting the posts as evidence.

Especially as Defra didn’t even need to trawl social media to look for the requester, they could just use the FOI submitted as, when the requester shared the FOIs on bluesky, the whatdotheyknow website had a link to the bluesky posts.

SabrinaThwaite · 08/01/2025 02:32

That is absolutely glorious.

I wonder if Vanessa Drury, who signed off the letter, put the annex together too.

AlisonDonut · 08/01/2025 09:16

I do wish they had put in 'people are free to post what they want on mumsnet' and 'scouring the internal message boards to report on words would have a chilling effect and potentially be in contradiction to our internal HR policies'. But you can't have everything.

Lets hope the civil service and arms length bodies are starting to sort this all out internally.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 09:16

It hasn't put Laura off though, she's updated the Reddit thread yesterday to reassure them that she's still fighting for them.

Apparently it's all a win win because even if the ICO tells her to Foxtrot Oscar they will have to publish a decision, and "SEEN really hate it when their activities are dragged into the light" apparently, and she suspects "that's for good reason".

What sort of mind blowing revelatory information does Laura think an investigative journalist should be trying to uncover here?

Plus I'm not sure that Laura has quite grasped that sunlight and transparency doesn't favour transactivism.

Trying to find out the names of anonymous people you disagree with, via their workplace, is not viewed as 'sunlight' by normal people.

WhatUSeeIsWhatUGet · 08/01/2025 09:46

This Laura Brown must be very bored in "her" parents basement. I'm glad "she" has found a purpose.

There is a woman with the same name who works at one of the arms length bodies in this whole range of requess.

So either it is her or someone pretending to be. It seems pretty dogmatic for someone to keep a pretence up for so long.

ArabellaScott · 08/01/2025 10:03

Investigative journalist, eh? To dig up, what, that women post on Mumsnet?

I can’t face Reddit, does the requester / Reddit user claim that the motivation behind this is a moral crusade to enlighten the general public?

I seem to recall when this was first discussed on here many months back, that the motivation expressed in the Reddit discussion was to identify and target individuals in their workplaces.

Bannedontherun · 08/01/2025 10:33

They want to name and shame any seen member, and link them to what they have said here. They seem to believe that the civil service have this information.

Pretty much, yes. She seems to think it will blow up into a massive scandal.

Bad Titchy! You made me look at Reddit!

😂

I mean, what else is there to do, locked alone in our homes as we are?

biddyboo · 08/01/2025 11:06

That Reddit post is hilarious. She has a bit of a messiah complex, doesn't she 😅 There will definitely be consequences from Laura's actions, although I don't think they will be the ones Laura is intending. She is perfectly illustrating the vile, bullying tactics of transactivists. And hopefully it will prompt HR to review their support of "allies", particularly when they conduct themselves like Laura.

It must be very distressing for transactivists to discover that they can no longer bully and silence people into submision as they have done previously. Meanwhile, we will keep winning our rights back in the courts, and they will just have to cope 😊
