Secret signals

I bought a mug a few years ago which I like to think is simultaneously entirely innocent and also a bit of a signal to those ‘in the know’ that they are not alone.

it’s a mug in green and white and purple (scandalous)

I’d quite like to add to my collection of ‘secret signals’ but not quite brave enough to get the scarf.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps now is the time to stop being scared and all spend a fiver on becoming a man…

if we ALL collectively took this stand…

Even if I lived in the UK, which I don't, I wouldn't want to waste £5 on going over to the dark side.

Sigh. Was talking to DD yesterday having watched a news item on cervical cancer screening, where 'women and people with a cervix' was used and then later just 'people with a cervix' (though the illustration was all female i.e. silhouettes wearing skirts). I said I did not like the 'people with a cervix' tag or that 'women' was not used in the information bit. DD is sort of captured. Said it's polite to use people's preferred name (I agree - people have silly names all the time anyway) and pronouns. I said I was not compelled to do so when speaking of that person and would use their name mostly, anyway. She said as though it was perfectly ok, that I should make sure I was not being recorded and was I happy to offend people? I think she's onboard with men not being in women's sports but does not understand what is meant by compelled speech. She's in her 40s and works for a US company in a high-profile sales role. I think she won't see the problem till she falls over it.
Yasmin Alibhai Brown was on Jeremy Vine that morning, too, saying trans people were entitled to be whatever gender they wanted on any day. She brought up the 'you wouldn't allow this if they said no black person rather than no transwoman' objection. To his credit, Vine said that comparison was nonsense. Irritating woman, who doesn't give a toss about women not in her fairly privileged position.
I don't know how to explain to my DD - I get tangled up.

If trans people are entitled to identify as any gender they want, then surely women can identify as men?

I have a Dino pin badge. Might get something In suffragette colours too.
What is THE scarf that has been referred to? Does anyone have a link?

DeanElderberry · 03/01/2025 14:45

I'm glad this thread reminded me that when I took the car for its test I took Tracy the Triceratops off the dashboard and put her in the pocket.

She's back in place now, ready to rebuke me if I take a corner too fast. Some people have St Christopher, I have Tracy.

I really want the throw but can't justify the price tag to myself! I have the scarf but the wrap is tempting me...

Might be a bit shit for other employees that just happen to like dinosaurs/wear green or purple dresses if the TRAs in the workplace round on them for 'displaying secret symbols of Terfdom'.

This is mostly a women thing. Unless you’re perhaps a paleontologist I’ve never seen a woman wear something dinosaur themed in over 15 years of corporate life, this doesn’t seem enough of a reason that all the women on this thread should stop their small personal identifying themes. The sufragette colours have been around for quite some time, I doubt anyone has to stop wearing purple green and white if that’s their favorite, but its always been suffragette colours so hasn’t suddenly been made a thing.

Waitwhat23 · 03/01/2025 20:32

I'm just remembering the Scottish Parliament beclowning themselves by banning suffragette colours from the Chamber while selling suffragette themed items in their own gift shop

GlomOfNit · 07/01/2025 23:58

I make jewellery from various media and even have a few pairs of Suffragette colours earrings on my occasional stall! I have a long beaded necklace in the colours that I wear when I'm feeling feisty. And after reading this thread, I plan to make myself some dinosaur charm earrings with green, white and purple beads!

anyolddinosaur · 08/01/2025 08:09

Lots of people like dinosaurs 😀regardless of their views on gender, there are no secret signals.

Not wanting to derail the thread, but I looked up the SEEN lanyard and found this:

Is this really supporting those with GC views or would wearing a SEEN lanyard be career suicide?

Newhorse · 08/01/2025 08:25

Also maybe Wimbledon themed items if suffragette colours alone are too outing

@Newhorse Its a recognised work group. You have protected rights within it

I have been eyeing up some rather lovely vintage/antique jewellery on line. Some are listed as having 'suffragette colours'.
