Gonna need a photo of you in your homemade DS9 uniform. Them's the rules. It's like a parking diagram.

This picture of Boily wearing the tribble's costume and wondering 'what next?' is my favourite AI image ever so far 🪲

If I was going to change my name, I’d definitely choose ‘afiiry blobs of umblewead’. It’s inspired!

Very sadly the replicator broke the last time I put it in for cleaning/refreshing.

Hate when that happens.

Just look at Ezri, and imagine the effects of years, kilos, general wear and tear and lots of gravity.

Bannedontherun · 31/12/2024 10:31

Looks like Arthur Scargill, or Neil Kinnocks head

I was thinking Trump's hair...

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2024 11:54

That tribble picture does look like an aerial view of Donald Trump.

Coincidence?

The pigs are scarfing the tribbles down and they have a preference for the more fertile ones, so litter size and frequency are decreasing due to selection pressure. The gerbils are finding lots of uses for them too, they make great floor mops for example, and bleach seems to be lethal to them. A small population in the eating areas is useful for keeping the floor clear of crumbs.

Now we've got natural hot springs, the capybara have piped some of the water and built some hot houses. The tribbles can't survive too much humidity and they make excellent compost.

I know exactly which shelf my Star Trek DVDs are stored on.

If I'm wearing a blue scant uniform that makes me a scientist. That's okay. Some kind of terraforming with a side order of tribble extermination would be fun.

Mine are second shelf up on my living-room bookcase, which is double stacked so most of my DVDs are behind books.

I've never seen any of the animated series though. I'm not sure how come I didn't watch them when I was young.

DeanElderberry · 31/12/2024 12:10

The animated series has some good stuff relevant to the rest of ST even if they won't admit it's canon, not just tribbles. Women on away missions, Spock backstory (that was picked up in films and influenced Enterprise), Orions, aliens and special effects that could not have been depicted any other way at the time. Lightweight, but fun (and short).

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/12/2024 12:12

@DeanElderberry Oh, this is glorious. You said, 'Just look at Ezri, and imagine the effects of years, kilos, general wear and tear and lots of gravity.'

So I checked wiki & asked the AI for 'a much older Ezri Dax' & it produced just one picture which is...

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/12/2024 12:13

... wait for it...

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/12/2024 12:14

... this. 😂

Tribbles make good shoe cleaners too. Use them to apply polish and then buff them up.

Just saying.

Were you also looking disapprovingly at Spock's boots in that picture, Cake? 🤣

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2024 12:35

I..well, look at them! They're filthy!

MyrtleSingingCarols · 31/12/2024 12:36

Are there a lot of tribbles packed in the boxes?

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2024 12:36

It only needs one.

If my consciousness has infiltrated Spock in some kind of Trill symbiont manner that would explain the uncharacteristically scruffy boots.

Is AI indicating that it thinks that when women get very old and weatherbeaten we then turn into men? By implication, men are grownups, women are immature. AI would want to cop itself tf on.

This is why AI won't take over the world. It doesn't consider half the thinking in the world. If AI were ever close to taking over, the women would just unplug it.

Not a man, Deano. The rational thought processes and equanimity of a Vulcan, surely?

Given that tribbles are the result of genetic engineering gone wrong [Starfleet scientist Edward Larkin was the culprit - I only know that because I googled it], and given that we have a few scientists here, why can't our resident scientists disappear into the Bluestocking lab and re-genetically-engineer the annoyingness out of them? Cute little faces would be nice. Smile

lcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2024 15:09

Fair point. It's a bit fiddly sticking on googly eyes and fake eyelashes. It would be nice if they grew their own, even if they're non-functional. Perhaps some sort of cross with a potato? I bet that hybrid would make excellent mash.

@MarieDeGournay unfortunately I'm the wrong sort of scientist - I don't do genetics. Although I do know a fair bit about potatoes, and trust me when I say I don't think crossing a tribble with a potato would be a wise move.

I'm not sure those scientists care whether you are the right sort of scientist or not. I think they are hellbent on experimentation.
