Glinner and Andrew explaing to Jordan Peterson their reasons for moving Stateside

Thanks for this @BoreOfWhabylon, an interesting conversation.

This is really unlikely - it’s not even being reported in trades like the Hollywood Reporter or Deadline, which report just about everything a publicist calls to tell them.

I wish them luck but I don’t think this is an opportunity he would have taken seriously a year or two ago. I just feel sad for him at this point.

I think you're far off the mark; with Rob Schneider attached, this project is looking to be one of the comedy high points of 2025. When officially announced, I'm sure the interest from the entertainment press will be palpable.

BeccaS34 · 16/12/2024 10:24

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic.

Rob Schneider hasn’t had a hit in years and his daughter (Elle King) has openly crticised him on podcasts. Schneider also alienated some group of Christians at a comedy gig within the past year. He’s also grandfather aged which means this show’s unlikely to appeal to the 18-34 demographic advertisers like.

These are all people on the down escalator, and this project hasn’t been sold to a real network so it’s unlikely there’s decent money on offer for anyone.

I liked Father Ted & the IT Crowd too but this might take Glinner farther into the woods not back to a mainstream entertainment career. If they’re going to be in Phoenix, housing is also expensive there.

SueSuddio · 16/12/2024 10:55

Glinner has worked with everyone. Simply every comic actor in the UK comedy world, we could take up an entire thread with the names - from household to cult status and everyone in-between.

Only Richard Ayoade has really publicly supported him but it's crazy to think that Ayoade is the only person who agrees with him out of all these names or sympathises to some degree (Ayoade at least publicly sympathises with his p.o.v., he's never laid bare his feelings).

I'm really glad Glinner is going back to comedy because few else have achieved what he has & it's where he belongs. Father Ted the musical should be his destiny though.

My poor broken heart. Doyle departs, Sunday nights now destroyed. Sorry Josh, you're a nice bloke but.........

They should have James Dreyfus to replace Andrew

Abhannmor · 16/12/2024 22:10

Jonathan Ross stood by Glinner too in fairness.

Spacewoman3 · 17/12/2024 15:52

I knew it and I've just seen Graham agree with me on X, everything after the first two episodes of Motherland was shit.

Goodbye to Glinner
lcakethereforeIam · 17/12/2024 17:05

Titania Andrew Doyle has written about the move

I know it would never happen but a Hairy Bikers-esque TV show following these two as they discover their new country could've been amazing.

Ayoade is a good guy. It takes courage to stand up against all his peers in sticking up for Graham.

Phones duct taped to their chests to film each other on the move.

Glasses used as a make-shift stand for phones to film them together in static locations this is how I watch stuff on my phone 🤓

It’d be a funny mix of peepshow, reality tv, and Father Ted (the fairground edition) ingenuity

The sight of a crane at any country fair still has me in hysterical laughter (followed by the inevitable disappointing H&S reality of no park bench attached to it)

I’d watch an IRL streaming version of their adventures quicker than a slick documentary and not just cos I have no tv and am YT only type of viewer

I'm really struggling to reconcile the idea of being a feminist and working with Jordan Peterson. It seems to me that those two things are entirely incompatible. He really has fallen off the deep end.

Well, yes, you’re entirely right but haven’t you noticed that you find yourself with frankly unsavoury bedfellows on this issue? I’m frequently appalled.

Glinner · 21/12/2024 18:08

Do you mean the same Jordan Peterson who had Kellie Jay Keen, Mary Harrington and Louise Perry on his podcast? Feminists who the mainstream media hasn't touched with a bargepole for the last six years? Because that's the one I met. Guilt by association is a favourite tactic of TRAs, and I suspect MaybeALittle is one.

Oh, mate. Best not raise the subject of 'unsavoury bedfellows', because I promise you genderism will not do well out of guilt by association.

lcakethereforeIam · 21/12/2024 19:01

We don't have to be in lockstep, we don't have to agree on everything. In fact disagreement, being able to disagree is healthy. What's it? Thesis, antithesis then synthesis (assuming I've got that right) is an excellent way of working stuff out. Better than thesis, die in a grease fire bigot, lose the court case, la la la I'm not listening.

FlowchartRequired · 21/12/2024 21:19

I agree with some things that JP says and I disagree with other things that he says. He is correct about compelled speech and how that is a bad thing. He does consider things and employs critical thinking rather than having a list of 'right think' that he follows without question.

Someone who is thoughtful and willing to discuss things is far more open to changing their mind if good evidence is presented than the person with the list who hasn't thought about a damn thing, so has no desire at all to look at evidence.

Appalled? By JP?

He isn't the problem here. You'd have to be a [redacted] to think he is the issue.

It gives me another chance to post this though...his interview with Chloe Cole.

ILikeDungs · 22/12/2024 13:01

GI thugs at JP's university tried to shut him up when he spoke against Bill C16 and compelled speech.

Back then he was pretty much an unknown Canadian Uni prof but he was one of the first to be blackballed and cancelled very vociferously for his (perfectly reasonable) views on free speech.

Thanks to the TRA attacks putting a fire under him he has travelled the world on speaking tours, written multiple books and is recognised throughout the western world. So how did that work out for you MaybeALittle?

Not that I am accusing you of being the mob, of course. But I also fell prey to dissing JP at first because I did not understand the details and what he was fighting for, and only knew that "good people" thought he was beyond the pale. That taught me a lesson and I am glad of it.

FlowchartRequired · 22/12/2024 13:37

Yeah, it's just like JKR, when you press people on what he actually did wrong, they often can't really pin it down beyond being 'a bad person.'

Thank you, I have not quite finished watching, but as far as I can see JP is first rate in the thoughts and intuitions he brings to Chloe’s experiences. It seems difficult to imagine a bette more thoughtful or intelligent therapist.

I need to stop for now but it is just after she said she had wanted the confidence, strength and independence of a man. He said there was no reason she could not have those qualities as a woman - that all those things were part of the range of what being feminine is.

What is supposed to be so dreadful about him?

Villagetoraiseachild · 22/12/2024 14:34

I hope Andrew and Graham have a ball stateside. They fully deserve a good break. Hopefully it's au revoir not adieu.

(Btw, dear Andrew, black is not your colour with regards your what to wear comments on GBN. You would really suit a muted palette)

lcakethereforeIam · 19/03/2025 00:46

I think this is good news for Glinner

https://becivil.co.uk/case-notes/david-paisley-v-graham-linehan-2025-ewhc-624-kb-/

There was an article in the Solicitor's Journal but you have to be a subscriber, so I could only read the header. It might've been about something completely different. Anyway, iiuc Paisley has had his application for all his costs turned down. Although I don't do legalese very well, it could be the opposite.

Glinner · 19/03/2025 00:59

Oh my God thank you!

CydonianKnight · 19/03/2025 01:40

@Glinner My son recently passed away, aged 19, from a bad epileptic seizure. I have been on a mission since to thank people who made him laugh during his life. His laugh was so precious. He had a lot of battles, against bullies at times, and yet he could be transported in a moment to laughing. Father Ted was his favourite. He could forget all of his problems and just laugh so much. Thank you for that. You won’t ever fully appreciate what you did for him, for us, but thank you.
