Senedd votes against allowing puberty blockers in Wales for gender distress

It hasn't been mentioned that while Westminister and NI both acted to continue the ban puberty blockers, meanwhile on December 10 in Wales an attempt was made to bring them back. It was brought by Adam Price former Plaid leader.

The Senedd rejected calls to revoke regulations restricting the prescription of puberty blockers for under-18s with gender incongruence or dysphoria.

Senedd members voted 36-12 against annulling the regulations on December 10. Basically Labour and Tories voted it down resoundingly, the one Lib Dem MS didn't vote interestingly, while the 12 votes for the motion were all the current Plaid MS.

You can read the whole short debate about motion 11 here:

That Plaid is all in on bringing back blockers contrasts them with the SNP who clearly in contrast have listened to advice from NHS Scotland.

Thanks OP I hadn't seen this. Comparing puberty blockers to free school meals though - bit of a stretch!

Price is clearly desperate and this comparison is part of Plaid's attempt to derail Labour.

The 2026 Senedd campaign is going to be very interesting if Plaid are going to stand on claiming the Cass Review was wrong.

That will lose them votes. I had considered voting for them But not anymore if this is what they want to run on.

I find it odd that Adam Price, a gay man, is so invested in an ideology which seeks to sterilise children who might grow up to be gay.

Also disappointed that current Plaid leader Rhun ap Iorwerth, who otherwise comes across as a sane and sensible man, supports this nonsense.

Good news. Let’s hope the Welsh government is starting the long journey back to sanity.

WomensSports · 13/12/2024 12:57

Excellent news that they got voted down. Disturbing that Plaid tried it in the first place though. I mean they really shouldn't be going against NHS advice and the Cass report.

ChaChaChooey · 13/12/2024 14:02

Great news! I do wonder if we would still have had all 4 nations aligning on this if we still had Tories in control of Westminster - Wes Streeting’s lead seems to be more palatable to the devolved assemblies than whichever Health Secretary was in charge this week in a Tory government (or perhaps that the new government and old government agreed on the ban is noteworthy enough for most elected representatives to follow suit, with only Plaid, the diehard TRAs in each party and the silent Lib Dems dissenting? I heard the Green’s 2 co leaders are arguing over it).

Welsh kids were all seem by GIDS anyway (and NI kids too) so unless NHS Wales intended to found the very first Welsh paediatric gender service this vote was pure performance only relevant to kids whose parents buy drugs via the Webberly’s shoddy outfit (although I suppose Susie Green would’ve been straight in to exploit that loophole).

Most of GenderGPs kids are put on cross sex hormones as early as Webberly thinks they can get away with (as young as 12!) because GnRHa are prohibitively expensive via private prescription.

I wish, but I really don't think so, when Cass came out all they did was 'note' it, and Jane Hutt spent 2 years trying to get Self ID in through the back door, despite the example of what happened in Scotland, she still tried the same tactic. It was only the women's right's activist's in Wales that stopped it, but it's only a matter of time before she try's again. Plaid Cymru and Labour are just 2 sides of the same coin, they've turned Wales into the capital city of cloud cuckoo land.

Fenlandia · 13/12/2024 15:27

Plaid seem to be like the Green party - determind to blow up any appeal they might have to voters who support Welsh devolution/independence and the environment respectively by going all in on anti-Cass lunacy.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 13/12/2024 16:22

Their all nuts, the Tory's are the only party that's taken a stand against this lunacy, but well they're the Tories. I'm surprised Labour voted against this but not surprised Plaid tried to overturn the ban, they're grandstanding, they think Labour is losing support and they're trying to vacuum up their vote's. They're another party that are completely tone deaf to what most people in Wales want.

I think some people are just selfish behind it all, irrespective of their sexuality. They won’t be affected, so if they can use it as a vehicle that they think makes them look ‘progressive’ they don’t really give an eff about how it will damage vulnerable kids. Just because someone is a gay man, don’t mean they can’t be a complete effer. Many gay men have been as willing to push this rubbish as any other man. It mostly infringes upon and damages the rights women and children.

I mean you’d think Private Eye would have exposed this for what it is. But no, they’re supposed fearless publication completely shies away from talking truth to that bs. Again, it mostly infringes upon and damages the rights of women and children, I suppose. On the other hand, some people have stood firm against this retrograde science/biology denialism. Thank goodness David Dawkins hasn’t gone daft (or pretend like the others) and betrayed reality.

Cailleach1 · 13/12/2024 17:59

And, many women have pushed and gone along with this bs too. Working against the rights and interests of their own sex. That is nothing new though. The nuns who ran the Magdalen Laundries, and the Mother and Baby homes, were happy to treat women and girls so badly too.

RickyBobbysKFC · 13/12/2024 20:22

Adam Price has two children via surrogate so it didn’t surprise me when he pulled this one.

A man who see's children as a commodity would have no problem with them being used as guinea pigs I guess.
