My terfing energy has been focussed elsewhere in recent months and I haven't been here or on TwiX or social media much. Now I've taken responsibility for tweeting/ comms on behalf of a small but potentially significant LGB group and I discover that there seems to be something going on — another schism — in GC world. Jane Clare Jones's name seems to be coming up a lot. Something seems to have gone on but I can't work out what.

If it was my own account I'd just ignore, but the followers of this account are bringing it up and seem to expect an opinion to be expressed or a side to be taken. Also I'm seeing a lot about 'ultras' and 'lites', which is new to me. Can anyone enlighten me? I need to tread carefully.

I didn't think you could do feminism degrees any more nor 'women's studies' isn't it all gender studies now?!

Precisely. And pointing this out also upset the Professional Feminist people as they let feminism as a concept get taken over in the universities.

Oops.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 14:25

And so then you might understand @CandyMaker why women who consider themselves feminists because they believe in women's rights but are considered to "not understand feminism" by a few self-important left leaning women, eschew these women's lofty pronouncements in favour of more grassroots campaigns like Let Women Speak?

Quite a few years ago someone suggested I do women's studies.

Doesn't exist.

There are other grassroots campaigns all around the country. I am involved in some.

Exactly.

Why does that sound like feminism lite for non academics?

CandyMaker · 17/12/2024 15:01

@Datun what a strange thing to say. Many academics are also involved in grassroots feminist campaigns.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 15:10

Well done. Not relevant to my point, though.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 15:10

Exactly.

These arguments aren't doing any favours on this thread, either.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 12:58

Yes @AlisonDonut I have, not to Ditum's original tweet because she deleted it, but a screenshot of both.

Yeah. This was a general comment and not specifically aimed at KJK.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 15:14

Indeed.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 12:39

That is ONE tweet aimed at KJK after many many months where she had insulted many women.

It wasn't aimed at KJK, it was aimed at many women like us here on FWR.

Yes. Let's have a bit of evidence with those assertions.

Calliecarpa · 17/12/2024 13:01

To clarify, the insult that was specifically aimed at KJK was 'poundshop Marine le Pen', by Sarah Ditum on TwiX.

The 'domesticated zombies' insult was not aimed specifically at KJK, as should be perfectly obvious from the grammar (it's clearly plural, not 'a domesticated zombie') and was written on TwiX by Ruth Serwotka. She was responding to a post by Sarah Ditum, again, about women who think they're feminists 'because they know what sex is'. See attached screenshot. Really nasty, playground stuff.

ETA: Ah, I see I'm too late and someone's already posted it!

Edited

I'm even later than you! Perils of reading posts back in order ...

Great - is there a checklist for who you allow to participate?

DotComMillionaire · 17/12/2024 15:43

CandyMaker · 17/12/2024 12:41

But I get tired at the constant insults thrown at women like me. Supporters of KJK never seem to see any issue with that.
Any insults aimed at supporters of KJK and all hell breaks loose.

Supporters of KJK get sick of being called right wing bigots. Many of the women I’ve met at LWS were from all walks of life, those who said they were previously on the left could no longer support anyone who felt that humans can change sex. KJK has brought this into the open to ordinary people and using unambiguous language which is a lot more than anyone else has achieved. It is disgusting that she needs to have security to speak the truth in public. It’s the same mob mentality that gets people cancelled for wrong think.

You can’t keep voting Labour if more than half the cabinet are prepared to say they think women have penises. It doesn’t mean you’re right wing if you’re no longer a leftist.

CandyMaker · 17/12/2024 15:47

AlisonDonut · 17/12/2024 15:34

Women who do not insult other women for a start.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2024 15:49

That leaves out a large proportion of your "proper feminists" then @CandyMaker

CandyMaker · 17/12/2024 15:57

I know it does. But I am spending my own time campaigning. I want to do it with women who are easy to work with.

Justnot · 17/12/2024 16:01

I too have been a SAHM for last 5 years because of SEN child. I never particularly wanted kids and came to it late by accident. I am fiercely feminist - was born with a chip on my shoulder about being a girl, didn’t need to read a book to know I was a feminist, gone toe to toe with boys/men all my life. But once I had my child it was like I’d won all the battles but lost the war. The responsibility of bringing a child up and safeguarding them trumps everything.

Ditto about trying to get back into work.

But you've come on here and made a lot of assertions and assumptions that are quite rude. So, you know ... be the change.

ArabellaScott · 17/12/2024 16:07

The idea of an employment agency specifically for women returning to the workplace is actually a bloody excellent one.

LOL!! You have a cheek given how women have treated me on this thread.

Floisme · 17/12/2024 17:16

While we're talking insults and 'proper feminists' can anyone remember who used 'white supremacist Barbie'?
