I requested a link via email through the tbtas website.
Haven't received one. Has anyone else?
Hearing starts at 10am.

Please would you say what it is about? I am sorry to be so ignorant.

justlikebuses · 10/12/2024 10:15

It seems like it's going the way that the tickle case went that she was on. Didn't get a hearing link until much later and half the hearing had taken place.

She also contrasted the BSB’s treatment of Proudman with the regulator’s stance towards Jolyon Maugham KC, the founder of the Good Law Project, when he said a high court judge was “a sort of fallen hero for what we all regard as the work she’s done to roll back trans rights, to empower transphobia and transphobes in domestic public discourse”.

Does anyone know who Maugham was talking about here? I don't like Charlotte Proudman particularly but I can well believe she has a case for unfair treatment here.

Mrs Justice Lieven:

'...Maugham’s astonishing attack on Mrs Justice Lieven as transphobe adjacent, saying:
She is simultaneously a hero amongst the Good Law Project’s overwhelmingly female staff team for the work that she’s done as a judge protecting the right to an abortion. And now, a sort of fallen hero for what we all regard as the work that she’s done to roll back trans rights, to empower transphobia and transphobes in domestic public discourse…
He knows as a serving Judge she may not respond. His criticisms were baseless and damage public confidence in our legal system and in the Bar. He should not have made them. '

A QC’s truth | Sarah Phillimore | The Critic Magazine

“In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Of course, the unspoken corollary is that those on the self-proclaimed “right side of history” seem to think they can get away…

Perhaps relating to this? IDK:

'In March 2021, Mrs Justice Lieven had to consider whether a transgender teenager with gender dysphoria who wished to continue with puberty-blocking drugs needed the permission of the court to do so. She found that "... the parents' right to consent to treatment on behalf of the child continues even when the child is Gillick competent to make the decision, save where the parents are seeking to override the decision of the child". As the parents and the teenager were in agreement, the treatment was to continue'

Thank you.

The BSB said that as the hearing was being held in private it was “not able to provide any documentation related to the proceedings and it would not be appropriate for us to comment further”.

How wrong and shocking.

As for the judge whose words she originally criticised …. Family Courts need exposure, as do some of the highly dangerous or harmful Cafcass practices and beliefs regarding women and children involved in family court proceedings.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/12/2024 10:51

What a dick Maugham is. Proudman's comment is much less offensive and borderline libellous than that.

This is an article about tre case in Legal Futures

Not sure if I've misunderstood, but is it that Maugham's views that a particular judge is transphobic are sincerely held whereas Proudman's views that a different judge has a "boys club" attitude are merely an attempt to insult?

If so, wow.

I have to say I agree with Proudman for objecting to a DV relationship being described as "reckless" and "tempestuous".

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/12/2024 11:26

Me too.

Yes those words convey the sense of a swashbuckling hero like Rhett Butler in the ‘“No” means “Yes”’ scene in Gone with the Wind where he swoops up Scarlett, who is kicking and fighting, to carry her up the stairs.

She's had all five charges thrown out.

(Sorry, wrong link first time).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/12/2024 15:03

The right decision. Maybe it will give her some insight into the importance of freedom of speech for gender critical women, even if she doesn't agree with us.

Honeycrisp · 12/12/2024 15:25

Good news.

ArabellaScott · 12/12/2024 15:55

Good.

Imnobody4 · 12/12/2024 16:35

Another good outcome to celebrate, I'm feeling dangerously optimistic.

Snowypeaks · 12/12/2024 16:47

Good result.

Butchyrestingface · 12/12/2024 17:25

I follow her on Insta. Glad to see the case was dismissed.
