Republicans introduce bill to define ‘male’ and ‘female’ based on biological differences (US)

IwantToRetire · 03/12/2024 02:05

Several Republican lawmakers introduced legislation to clarify that the terms “male,” “female,” and “sex,” among others, refer to the biological distinctions between men and women when those words are used in laws.

The Defining Male and Female Act of 2024, introduced by Sen. Roger Marshall from Kansas, aims to prevent government officials and courts from reinterpreting those terms through the lens of gender ideology by identifying men and women based on self-identification instead of biological distinctions.

Marshall said in a statement that he “didn’t think we would need legislation to tell us that there are only two sexes, male and female, but here we are.”

According to a news release, the legislation would restore the legal right to reserve girls’ and women’s sports and scholarships for biological girls and women. The news release also states that the bill would restore the sex separation of restrooms, locker rooms, dorm rooms, prisons, and shelters for victims of sexual assault.

“As a physician who has delivered over 5,000 babies, I can confidently say that politicizing children’s gender to use them as pawns in their radical woke agenda is not only wrong, it is extremely dangerous,” Marshall said. “We must codify the legal definition of sex to be based on science rather than feelings. With our legislation, we can fight back against the Biden-Harris administration’s assault on our children.”
Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, said in a statement that “men and women have biological differences that must be recognized.” He added that “women and girls deserve to feel safe and respected in all spaces, public and private.”

The legislation is designed to unwind policies that were enacted during the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Under the current administration, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reinterpreted the Affordable Care Act’s prohibition on “sex” discrimination to include any discrimination on the basis of so-called “gender identity.” The rule was blocked by a judge but would have forced health care providers and insurers to cover transgender drugs and surgeries for both adults and minors.

The administration also revised Title IX regulations to redefine sex discrimination to include any discrimination based on gender identity. This could have forced publicly funded schools and colleges to allow biological men in women’s locker rooms, dormitories, and athletic competitions. However, its enforcement is limited after multiple courts blocked implementation.

I suspect this will be treated with suspicion by some because it seems to have the backing of churches.

And that it was introduced by a Republican - press release Defining Male and Female Act of 2024,

targeting women and cis women.

So in your mad world "women" have a penis and cis women don't? Hahaha
Try a new one, that one has been done to death.

wait are yall really on the side of magats?
Magats?

FlowchartRequired · 06/12/2024 20:40

I think it's a portmanteau of MAGA and hat. Which is so hilarious, clever and original(!) that I am completely and utterly convinced by everything that that poster has written. I mean who needs a well reasoned and evidenced argument (or capital letters) when you can just write 'magat' and 'pedos' instead?

Such a shame that I am not American and won't have a vote in the next US election because if Kamala stands again I'm completely ready to vote her.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 20:47

I can't get me ‘ead around why yer comin’ on a British board ter give us a telling off fer summat what them Yanks voted for? Why not ask t’Democrats why they made ‘emselves well hard ter elect?

IwantToRetire · 06/12/2024 21:15

I am almost tempted by the overly contrived way of writing to resort to totally, absolutely, just too jolly, English.

I have quite a few US facebook friends, and none of them bother with the pretentioius virture signalling style.

And none of them Trump supporters, but all committed sex based rights activists.

But in the world of the very limited if you are not for us, you are against us (we have a few Labour die hards like that here), of course you are confused.

But as has been said over and over again, if the so called left isn't prepared to stand up for women's biological reality, and the attempt by the sex class of men to undermine our rights, we have to take any sort of attempt to stop the trans narrative erasing women.

And as has so often been said about the left here, it is the complete and utter failure of the left (though Biden looks and sounds about as left as Tony Blair) to stand up for women's rights that is the problem.

If the Democrats had not been so completely suckered into the trans narrative, they would have been the ones out in front of supporting women's rights.

So not supporting women's rights doesn't make anyone a Trump supporter.

Seriously if that facile response to someone proposing to put into law the fact that sex means biology, is it any wonder that Trump won the election.

Well in fact he didn't win.

The Democrats lost around 8 million votes compared to last time.

Thats what happens when a political party thinks it can throw women under the bus.

When the left gets the gumption to stand up for women, then maybe women will stand up for them.

Just think 4 years of Trump because the Democrats betrayed women's rights.

The only problem is not only is it going to be tough for the US, but he will fuck it up for the rest of world.

thought it would be a bunch of moms talking about parenting

First mistake - that only moms post here.
Second mistake - that only parents post here.

I won't mention the rest of your mistaken assumptions but there are plenty.

So something called 'Mumsnet' has to be just 'A bunch of moms talking about parenting' , and the fact that it's so much more came as a surprise to you - couldn't you open your mind to the possibility that moms sometimes talk about something other than being moms?

If you look at the list of topics on Mumsnet, there's technology, sport, art, politics, religion, food, literature - many many different topics. You've landed on an area where 'a bunch of moms' [and others] discuss feminism and women's rights.

If you only want to discuss parenting, like raising girls or pressures moms face, there are lots of areas where you can do just that, and more.

There's even an area for 'newbies' to Mumsnet, which might help you get a better understanding of what it is.

portmanteau of MAGA and hat

Very good.

Forum board called 'Feminism: Sex and gender discussions' discusses biological sex and gender identity (which is exactly what it was created for) shocker.

SoYouThinkYouCanPrance · 06/12/2024 21:50

i just don't understand how yall can call yourselves feminists while you side with republicans. and you seem very keen on ignoring that part of my confusion

I think it’s more that we can’t be arsed with the faux puzzlement but okay, I will address that part of your pretend confusion.

We can do what you refer to as “siding with Republicans” on this issue (although it might be more accurately described as “being glad that at least one high-profile party recognises the sense of what we were already saying about this, even if it’s Republicans”) because we are not locked into the uniquely American headfuckery of stacked political positions in which a person who supports, say, abortion on demand is therefore assumed to also support a tightly policed list of other specific political takes, because they’re all regarded as linked.

In the UK, like many other places outside America, there’s a long-established tradition of forming political opinions based on what you actually think about stuff.

I hope that helps. Poor you, so at sea in this weird world of feminists who don’t agree with everything you think!

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 21:52

Eh up! Just a poor, innocent lass who just happened to barge into a nest o’ vipers, innit? An' if tha believes that I’ve got shares in a treacle pit t’give thee a go...

DonkeyHotey · 06/12/2024 21:55

This is hilarious. "Feminists" supporting Trumpists!

You are so blinkered it's beyond parody.
