First female chair of the British Olympic Association elected!

Katherine Granger has been elected to serve as the first female chair of the British Olympic Association in its 119-year history. She will take over as chair from Hugh Robertson in early 2025.

(For those wondering what the BOA is/does…)

Immediately I’m wondering what her position is on men in women’s sport - GB rowing hasn’t exactly been a beacon of common sense! Does anyone know?

If she was chair of UK Sports when this guidance was developed then I think it is a good indicator that she will be for protection of female sports. The guidance link on the UK Sport’s site is broken but I think this is it (I am on my phone so I hope it is the right one!)

The interview also quotes her as saying “I’m a big fan of JK Rowling”… admittedly in the context of a “what are you reading right now?” question but I think it’s fair to say that TRAs cannot separate the literature from the politics so I see that as promising.

She and Matthew Pincent presented the BBC’s rowing coverage together and seemed to get on very well, as if they are friends off screen too. Pincent , as we know, was excellent on this subject. So hopefully that bodes well.

Is ‘I like JKR’ code for ‘I’m a screaming TERF!’ I do hope so…

I thought that was one of the new fangled genders and the pronouns to go with it until I clicked on the link. 😂
