This is the best illustration of why we need to pay our political representatives more money. THEY NEED TO BE BETTER CALIBRE SO THEY DON'T CREATE MESSES LIKE THIS. I've got zero faith that KS will make any of this clearer.....even of he wanted to.

chilling19 · 27/11/2024 15:24

They didn't consider women at all

highame · 27/11/2024 15:25

He might be dull but he's getting the points across

The EU and its courts have been mentioned several time in this session.

Edited
  • Legal gender recognition
  • Most EU countries allow people to legally change their gender, but the process and criteria vary by country. Some countries allow for self-determination, where people can change their legal gender marker with a declaration. The EU Commission promotes best practices for accessible legal gender recognition, and encourages dialogue with stakeholders to raise awareness of trans and non-binary identities.
  • EU Court of Justice
  • The CJEU has ruled in favor of trans rights, including the right to have legal gender recognition granted in one EU country recognized in another. The CJEU has emphasized that mutual recognition of legal decisions is essential for upholding the rights of EU citizens.

Bonbon21 · 27/11/2024 15:28

Lost it at 'pregnant men'....

highame · 27/11/2024 15:28

If they cover protections for pregnant transmen, then they are trying to have it all ways

IDareSay · 27/11/2024 15:28

On Maya's row, from L to R is Kate Barker (LGBA) Fiona McAnena (SM) Maya (SM) and Dr Michael Foran.
On row behind is woman whose face I know but can't recall her name, Joanna Cherry, Andrea Bartlett (volunteers with LGBA), Julie Bindel, and another woman whose name I can't recall (I'm terrible with names but remember faces!)
I think blonde woman with AHF scarf may be Jill the journalist?

But many acts are like this they add later amendments ie mobile phone and driving dpp versus berrito he was found guilty when he used his mobile phone to film an accident in the magistrates court. But at that point, it only said using the phone to ring or communicate. So he then took it to Crown court and got found not guilty, but the government didn't like that, so they took it to the further court. But again, he got found not guilty, so then they had to do an amendment to say anybody using a mobile phone for any reasons while driving. We'll get fine, which is why we now have the new amendment twenty twenty two, about mobile phones and drive in.
I've started studying with the Open University law and business access course Cos. I have never done studies since 16. And i'm forty four. And that's how I found that out

The law is such a deep deep subject, and a really interesting one, isn't it Littlemissgobby?
I never studied law at all but a while ago I did some really deep research into how Irish gender recognition law came into being, downloaded minutes of parliamentary debates and committee reports and everything - there's nothing like going back to primary sources to get the facts straight!
Good luck with your studies.

That isn't a case of contradictory laws being passed. It is a case where the law did not have the desired effect. But yes, it is not uncommon for laws to be poorly written.

Enjoy your course!

is it because under EU law if someone has a GRC from any member state, the person must be treated as their acquired sex in any other member state?

So people who live in places like Germany who can get one by popping into the Town Hall and Saying It Is So can then go and live in somewhere like Poland and they have to be treated as the opposite to their biological sex. (would like to see someone try that in Hungary, tbh)

He's representing the EHRC. He's just pointed out a bunch of places where they agree with Sex Matters.

The judge did a definite ‘phew’ head shake there

Bannedontherun · 27/11/2024 15:30

his arguments only hold if judges accept the effect of GRA on the EQA and that parliament did not intend to protect women as a natal sex class.

which sounds a bit of a weak argument

who are the people behind, I'm trying to spot people. I can see Maya

To the right of Maya is Michael Foran to the left of her is Fiona McAnena (Sex Matters). I believe that the woman to the left of Fiona may be Eileen Gallagher of LGBAlliance

BettyFilous · 27/11/2024 15:31

Thank you! He’s not exactly smashing it out the park here.
