I was looking at this list of events for the 16 Days which start tomorrow http://www.womensgrid.org.uk/?p=25646

And was intrigued and pleased to see that one local event has added into their Vigil tomorrow:

We must stand together to protect women’s rights and especially their rights to safe spaces, separate toilets and changing facilities, which is now being denied by Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust.

(And no, before anyone makes the usual remark, this year seems to be no different from recent years, that most events are not women only. Although apparently the RtN march in Lincoln last week was - and a man complained! I was just amazed that some women were brave enough to organise a women only event. Such a shame that more dont feel, or worse, want to.)

The latest report on femicides reveals that 60 per cent of all female homicides are committed by an intimate partner or a family member.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 25 November, the report Femicides in 2023: Global Estimates of Intimate Partner/Family Member Femicides by UN Women and UNODC reveals that femicide—the most extreme form of violence against women and girls—remains pervasive globally.

Globally, 85,000 women and girls were killed intentionally in 2023. 60 per cent of these homicides –51,100- were committed by an intimate partner or a family member. The data shows that 140 women and girls die every day at the hands of their partner or a close relative, which means one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes.
