Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Matt Walsh thinks gender ideology has now been defeated in the USA - is he right?

Basically he thinks that making congress bathrooms single sex is a sign that the debate has been won. That Senators are now prepared to speak out on this issue in a way they wouldn't have three years ago.

He thinks the argument have been won and its just a matter of hoovering out the last remains of GI from other institutions in the USA.

Do you think he is right and if so, will this have a ripple affect elsewhere in the world?

Matt Walsh is a right wing American commentator. He made the 'What is a Woman' film.

Igmum · 22/11/2024 13:00

Why, on every thread, is there a drive-by scolding TRA? They don't listen to points, they don't answer questions, they often don't seem to understand the points they make themselves. They just don't like those pesky wimmin having and expressing opinions.

I'm beginning to think there's a TRA central website somewhere where they work shifts.

I think it's a watershed moment not the end.

But while we're chatting about Matt Walsh has anyone else seen his movie 'Am I Racist'?

Bits of it work better than others but 😳when he got Robin D'Angelo to give $20 to his producer because as reperations as he was black, or got the people on his course to yell Fuck You at his old racist wheelchair bound Uncle Frank.
Or the dinner party where white women paid to get told 'your are all pathetic you white women.'

Matt walsh is divsive figure but my god he's prepared to go to limits other wouldn't to reveal the absurdity of identity politics.

No not seen it, just clips.

Its not the point of the film, but I did find it interesting when he is being a dick (deliberately) at the 'Race to Dinner' event with the white women 'guests'. Because only one of the women tells him to shut up, basically. And none of the other women back her up. These are educated, affluent, 'progressive' middle aged women and yet they all failed to call this man out on his bad behaviour., but just sat there and took it.

I think it really showed how far left wing progressiveness has no real feminist analysis or thinking in it, because nearly all these women clearly felt that they could not assert a boundary against this man. Which brings us back to GI, that these women likely all buy into, which also tells women they are not allowed boundaries against men.

He's wrong. I wish it were that simple.
How many times have we thought "this will bring an end to it?".
There is so much money to be made from the commodifcation of human women's bodies - are they going to give up that easily?
There is something larger at play here that we can't see yet.
The trans issue has highlighted how many people don't think women are deserving of their own anything.
Kara Dansky has pointed out that the left are captured by this crap and let's hope the right don't fall for it now.

He wants the "gender identity war" to have started and ended around the times that he first became interested in using it and when it became surplus to his requirements.

This.

RoyalCorgi · 22/11/2024 13:10

I can see the merit of the "beginning of the end" argument. One significant thing that seems to have changed since the presidential election is that people are being much clearer about language. They are talking openly about "men" and "males" rather than "transgender women". Previously even people opposed to this ideology felt nervous about using that kind of language, because they'd get shouted down. But it's much easier to make your argument when you use clear language.

When Nancy Mace says "No balls in our stalls" she's not only making it explicit that she's talking about men, but she's drawing attention to the fact that most trans-identifying men still have their tackle. Rhetorically, that's pretty impactful. It means that people are now free to talk about how ridiculous this ideology is - and it's harder for defenders of the ideology to argue back.

Pokemamma · 22/11/2024 13:12

I think Trumps govt. will change things drastically over there, and just bring it back from a boil, to a simmer over here, until the democrats get back in and it all kicks off again.

In the meantime the TRA will have to go back to the previous era of where they can do as they like in private, no one cares, but women are no longer silenced for fear of 2 squad cars rocking up to our houses.

I look forward to the time when my children don’t come home confused because it’s been rammed down their throats, and I can go about my town not having to do a quick 180 in the bathroom when I leave the cubicle to make sure there isn’t a bloke in there. My small city seems to be teaming with 50+ men with beer bellies dressed in women’s clothes.

I look forward to the reprieve of all this nonsense.

That's intersting I didn't think about it like that.

I did think about whether I would have siad somehting and thought about when something is unusual and unexpected I have often not responded as I thought I would and in retrospect have regreted not challinging things.
So I wondered if it was more about that? He was being a dick but in a weird way whihch just set everyone on edge.
Also women who pay thousands to be called racist at a dinner party are quite a self selecting group so maybe not refcetibe of women in gneral? 😂

In one scene he is running his own anti racism course which gets and more extreme in the views he's asking people to go along with. People begin to object, opt out and leave, with just a few left at the end prepared to yell at Uncle Frank. Both a few men and women (but I think it was only the women who yelled at Uncle Frank.) I wonder if it is more of a personality factor in who an be coerced to do the absurd if you tell them it's righteous? Or if there is a sex correlation?

I think he's more optimistic than us because the big break thruogh in the USA is just getting everyone to talk about it, whereas we got that here a few years ago but know we've still got a long way to go. Even post Cass.

Also in the USA it's just going to become even more of a party line issue and so concensus is not going to be reachde and concensus is what is needed.

duc748 · 22/11/2024 13:20

And people like Walsh are so eager for an opportunity to point out how they're 'sticking it to the libs' in the US.

I really want to see it, how did you manage to, or are you in the US? He can be very very funny, although I dislike him intensely.

It is true that selecting to be a dinner party where you are told you a horrible white racist is probably not putting you in your most boundary setting frame of mind. I was really struck though that even when that woman stood up to him, no-one had her back.

I'm a Daily Wire member.

Yes Matt Walsh can be very funny, but then even I as somone more right wing in the UK sense, get taken aback by his bluntness about some of his views.
He really makes me realise the US is a different culture.

nauticant · 22/11/2024 13:36

The discussion about the dinner party is about the Race2Dinner crew. That's where wealthy progressive women pay the R2D people thousands of dollars so that, in return, they can be told they're shit people.

Here's a sub-project of R2D where they explain their shakedown in their own terms:

Watch out, Karen and Becky are coming to dinner.

I'm hoping the Dems won't be able to just bring it back in again. It was easier to bring all this shit in when no-one was really noticing or understanding what it meant.. People are very aware now. And most people don't like it.

If the republicans roll back GI, I'm hoping it will be too politically unpopular for Dems to return to it.

You're right they didn't support her.

That is a group dynamic I have experieneced personallly quite a few times, being prepared to challenge something but others not backing you even though I knew they agreed.
It's very painful.

Most of my experiences have been with women.

You could conlcude women are socialised not to challange, or women place group cohesivness above truth, or maybe it happens with men too?

One thing that's struck me about those deeply invested in identity politics is that because it's steeped in grievance, and the more grievance the better, then the more kindess they're shown, the more latitude they're given, the worst they behave and the more abusive they become.

Alphaalga · 22/11/2024 13:51

Walsh is just another yapping sound-biter whose brain belongs in one of the nutshells he thinks he's succinct enough to fit every issue into.

That twanging jaw-harp noise he makes isn't so much him talking as his cranium echoing the cerebral flatulence.

Yes it moves away from the previous belief that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect, to only those with a grievance deserve dignity and respect.

Obvioulsy there are some views which shouldn't be treated with respect, but the window on what those are has moved to encompass quite normal mainstream views and that people who hold those views can be treated with disrespect not just disagreed with.

I'm not sure.

I think getting into the nuts and bolts of gender ideology, and demonstrating your capacity to negotiate and regurgitate the postmodern concepts which underpin this unlikely narrative, gives some people who are eager to showcase their academic prowess an avenue to set them apart from 'common folk'.

It's an immensity satisfying tactic in which fealty to the lie is a secret handshake of being in the right gang.

I think both these things are true.

You can claim both moral and intellectual superiority.
Very satisfying.

Yeah, it's quite the dopamine hit.

And helps explain why they've been so adverse to sense and reason. Having to face up to the idea that the 'good guys' got it wrong is VERY painful.

MalagaNights · 22/11/2024 13:59

One women at MWs anti racist workshop admitted her racism when she asked for Despacito to be turned off the radio and there were Hispanics in the room.

MW deadpanned: 'That was very racist.'

It made me LOL.

Sorry of the derail, but I think it illustrates that MW is about calling out all identity politics absurdity and not necessarily specifically invested in the trans issue.
