NHS Grampian doubling down - survey, please complete

It seems NHS Grampian are planning to double down on their pushing of trans. Please complete their survey of their plan to focus on trans for the next four years under the PSED plan. They throw in women too but only record ‘gender’ and part of their trans actions if ensuring gender is changed in their records.

I'm currently reading the EHRC's guidance on equality outcomes (for work, not for fun).

Happy to report that it mentions women 33 times (mainly in the examples) and transgender once (in the context of being a small minority).

I will certainly comment on NHS Grampian's so called equality outcomes.

Thank you! Just when you think we might be moving forward you get an organisation wanting to write a plan as if there has been no movement at all. And why have a PSED plan that focus so much on 0.5% of the population?

Race/nationality, religion and belief, and age aren’t mentioned at all.

They've had hyper-bumps in funding. I imagine they find reading the Equality Act will spoil their fun. I thought Wez was going to end all this tosh

Health in Scotland is devolved and we all know the obsessions of the Scottish Government.

I'm local to this - what is the problem exactly as they mention "women (sex)" (granted the other characteristics not there)

Didn't get very far into the questionnaire but where do you see the problem? Thanks for highlighting - I used the NHS here and I'm totally against trans identified men in single sex wards for women

ArabellaScott · 21/11/2024 14:31

The problems that I can see are largely that they're not clarifing their terms.

Are they working on the basis of sex, or gender, or a weird and confusing mix of both?

But also that they're not apparently giving women the same consideration as people with special gender identities.

'Improve access to healthcare '

That's not exactly a clearly laid out KPI, is it?

The women's section has been dashed off in about ten seconds with fuck all thought and no detail. Why no mention of maternity care? Could it be because of the woeful provision in many areas of Scotland?

MovingCrib · 21/11/2024 14:32

I mentioned pain relief/GA for Hysteroscopy

MovingCrib · 21/11/2024 14:33

My maternity experience at Aberdeen Maternity was woeful

Bennachie · 21/11/2024 14:34

Well given they are also committing to changing ‘gender’ on their records and don’t record sex, they will have no way of knowing if they are improving services for women or placing men on women’s wards. They are getting an activist organisation to train staff and do ‘diversity campaigns’. Plus a LGBT+ staff network, because they provide balanced campaigns don’t they? You cannot separate what they claim they will offer women from what they are doing for trans.

And why so much focus on trans but nothing on race, religion/belief, age?

ArabellaScott · 21/11/2024 14:35

I'm sorry to hear that, MovingCrib. There are many problems iwth maternity care throughout Scotland.

That survey presented as it is is insulting. They've clearly done a good bit of handwringing on the transgender section, added a fair bit of detail (although no proper explanation of terms) and then given up and tossed in a couple of weak sauce statements at 'women' that are so vague as to be utterly meaningless.

MovingCrib · 21/11/2024 14:36

Yes I saw that about the group offering training

ArabellaScott · 21/11/2024 14:36

Good point. Age, particularly is a huge issue for the NHS for obvious reasons.

Bennachie · 21/11/2024 14:38

The disability section is just ‘reasonable adjustments’ for staff. Nothing about accessibility or policies, or even about patients and visitors.

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 21/11/2024 14:50

Done. The women's health section was woeful, just vague 'raising awareness ' no specifics or changes in service provision.

MelodyMalone · 21/11/2024 14:53

These are my thoughts too. Little on disability (just focusing on staff) and nothing on age. Nothing on people living with dementia , which is a huge issue. But a heavy focus on transgender.

Bennachie · 21/11/2024 15:03

Pregnancy and Maternity is a protected characteristic in its own right too. And, as you say, no mention at all.

OP posts:
MovingCrib · 21/11/2024 15:13

Oh good point! I didn't spot that.

NotAGirl · 21/11/2024 15:50

Wow that survey was embarrassing to read, looked more amateurish than a school homework assignment

Bennachie · 10/01/2025 10:02

Just boosting this as the deadline is today

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 10/01/2025 10:16

Filled it in

its a total shocker. They might do something or other in 2029. For women
so it was just transgender people who came first and staff would get trained on this, then travellers then women. Nothing about race or age or pregnancy. Or age.

kiterunning · 10/01/2025 10:27

The NHS in Scotland is a disgrace.

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 10/01/2025 10:29

Done. (Nothing to stop anyone at all from completing the survey…)
