Finally world fencing have issued new gender eligibility rules for female licensed events and they are for born women only 🥳

About time! Good.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 18/11/2024 21:49

And 'sex at birth', no 'assigned' loopholes.

borntobequiet · 18/11/2024 21:56

Sanity, how refreshing. Well done fencing.

Snowypeaks · 18/11/2024 23:46

The policy is good. No exceptions for non-pubertal males, either. Good stuff.

They do say sex is "assigned at birth" in the Definitions section, though, which is disappointing.

Their definition of "transgender" is odd. The Equality Act doesn't say anything about GI and the definition seems to imply that it does. Perhaps this Definitions section is a hangover from the previous policy.

Inch by bloody inch we're taking it all back (or should that be cm by cm). 👊🤨
Well done those who changed fencings mind. 😊👍

Excellent!

WomensSports · 19/11/2024 11:40

Great news! Should have been bloody obvious to them in the first place, but still.

SinnerBoy · 19/11/2024 12:02

Well, that's a welcome outbreak of common sense.

misscockerspaniel · 19/11/2024 15:04

Great news. Note to the FA and other sporting organisations - no, it really is not "complicated".

For orgs like the FA and IOC it’s only complicated because they want to have two opposite things in the one category - if they just went by biological sex rather than identity/feelings there wouldn’t be any complication at all. They want to have their cake and eat it too 🤷‍♀️

Well they could do what fencing has and have a female only group and a mixed group, that would be inclusive.

I do wonder how much of the change in fencing policy is due to the man who won the female championships in both weapon events (noone has ever done this in the male or female competition before), it's pretty hard to explain away
