Just recently on Woman’s Hour, Hannah Gadsby, comedienne, described as they, when there was clearly only one of her being interviewed.
Tonight on Mastermind, a person who was clearly male was described as her by Clive Myrie over and over again. This really grates. And we get to see him again…

Only Connect just had both Stonewall AND Judith Butler as answers….

I trust UC stands firm against That Kind Of Thing.

Ramblingnamechanger · 11/11/2024 20:34

UC were the worst…but not recently I think.

No actually I’m wrong…there was one that seemed to be modeling himself on the woman next to him.

Mastermind - another head tilter. He was getting off on being called she.

To be fair one of the clues in the drinking vessel round was Gertrude Stein.

I was listening to a very interesting podcast (BBC production) on Pompei when the expert spoke of the pregnant people found in recent years

I switched It off I just can’t listen to such untruths which is a shame as it was fascinating up until that point

I gave up watching Mary Beard's documentaries after she decided the Romans needed to be described using 'gender special' terms 🤷‍♀️

On Only Connect I noticed they defined a man as a adult male so that was very transphobic.

i noticed “Olivia” talking about watching mastermind as a little…kid was the word Olivia reached for after a pause, obviously correcting themself mentally from saying “little boy”.

I watched this and thought the same. I don't know any women who head tilt.

HandShoe · 12/11/2024 09:31

I did like that on Only Connect when they had the Stonewall round Victoria's joke was that she started asking ˋAnd what do we think about..?´ with a sudden trailing off and moving on as they all know the shitstorm that would follow anyone actually saying what they think

Cuppachuchu · 12/11/2024 09:31

Or who were such massive fans of New Order when young girls. 😏

Oh FFS this is absurd. It’s all absurd.
BBC - STOP IT NOW

Am I the only person who finds the whole 'they' thing confusing? Apart from being stupid, how do I know if the statement is about a single they or a group? Or both in the same sentence? It just seems that, until a huge and irrevocable mistake is made, there will continue to be confusion.
P. S. I can't bear to watch the Beeb any more.

I turned to DH at that point and said he surely meant "when I was a very small boy......."

It's so confusing and ungrammatical! And incredibly hard to stick to, even for the woker than woke, when it's obvious that the They in question is either male or female. One automatically defaults to the appropriate pronoun.
