Strangely enough the Democrats have been caught out with this when the Republican voters have decided to reject this pattern and support potential authoritarianism...

Why do you feel the Republicans, traditionally the party of small government, are more likely to be authoritarian than the democrats with their policing of speech?

Cos Trump is authoritarian!

Theyve also discovered that most Latinos are quite conservative regarding the traditional family amongst other things.

Tbf, I know what you and @Lalgarh mean but quite large numbers of Protestant, Catholic as well as nonreligious (who are increasing) US Hispanics support gay marriage. Definitely they are more traditional than the average American but quite a few support various lgb rights, just not queer/trans.

Sorry, I know it's an old thread. Just thought it was an interesting point.

I was surprised to hear that Morrissey/ Smiths are huge in Latin America. What with their macho image.

The emotional way Moz sings is similar to some Latino styles.

Plus Latin American countries are a mixed bag, there is a lot more violent homophobia but also several have pretty progressive parts (eg. Argentina was early to legalise gay marriage & plenty there do support that)
