"The different forces at work in the arena of gender dysphoria are well apparent in our descriptions of guideline development in the countries where we, the authors, work and live. The interplay—the push and pull—between the rights-based approach and evidence-based approach has created a complex dynamic that will take years to play out, in different countries, and in ways that are hard to predict. Whatever the quality of the medical, cultural, and political processes that come to bear on the situation and its challenges, there is likely to be a serious human cost."
