DerekFaker · 03/11/2024 13:16

Convicted sex offender Isla Bryson has branded the Harry Potter author “pathetic” and backed under-fire Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre for employing a trans-identifying man as CEO.

Who the hell gave this rapist a voice?

Abhorrent that they're publishing anything they say.

Good question.

I'd say - the government that put him in a woman's prison.

More to the point, can't we go a day without seeing Rowling's face in the press regarding something to do with trans people one way or another? It's been almost daily for about 5+ years now

So whats your view of the actual point of thread and the violent rapist larping as a woman and throwing his toys out the pram because he’s not allowed to be locked up with vulnerable female prisoners?

Does seeing Jo Rowlings face really concern you more that that?

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/11/2024 13:31

Don't be silly @TwistedWonder

Stop making it all about violent rapists when you could be having a go at a beloved children's author. Priorities!

I know. It's fabulous.

Obviously it's fabulous because she's fabulous, but it's also fabulous because of the hilarity of watching the collective mantrums of the man-babies.

You can mantrum away as much as you like, and she'll still be smarter, richer and better-looking than any of you.

Yes we can once males stay the fuck out of female spaces and sports and we can stop talking about it. How's that for a deal?

DrBlackbird · 04/11/2024 22:37

Blame Isla for this round.

I know this time someone mentioned JK Rowling, but 99% of the time it's JK Rowling tweeting non-stop about trans people (or people who aren't trans but trans supportive) who haven't even mentioned her.

It's getting old at this point. Yes, we get it, JK Rowling has a thing about trans people. We don't need a daily reminder year after year every time we open a newspaper or click on online news.

TickingAlongNicely · 05/11/2024 13:58

I've seen more people tweeting about JKR apparently tweeting about Trans people then JKR actually tweeting about them.

Or when she went on holiday, tweeting about how she wasn't tweeting about them.

But is she happy? A billionaire and spends a lot of time online being upset because trans people exist?

If I had her money I would barely be on social media or the internet at all. I'd be on non-stop around the world trips and doing adrenaline sports and stuff.

It's a perfect example of how money can't buy happiness.

Absolutely this. They know it’s about safeguarding and protection of women’s rights but it suits their tantrums to pretend she hates every single trans person on the planet and wants them all to die.

But the frothing TRA’s never really address the root of the issue they?

She has her money because in spite of all the odds, her talent, hard work and brain helped her achieve what she has. If you had her talent, hard work and brain, who knows where you'd be and what you'd think.

You spend enough time on here social media in case you missed it telling women off. Go jump off a bridge or out of a plane if it makes you happier. We could do with a break.

And once again what’s your view of the ‘someone’ who mentioned JKR on this occasion? You know the one. That man in the fetching pink leggings showing off his Crown Jewels. The violent rapist that bloke

She seems happy enough to me! And so she should, fabulous woman.

Well, that is the sort of person you are. If you want to spend your hypothetical riches on yourself and your good times, go for it.

JKR however is the sort of person who, having achieved an unfathomable level of sucess and personal wealth, wants to spend it on good causes, many (though not all) of which are supporting female people (women, in the original sens eof the word) who even today get dealt a shittier hand of cards than male people in almost every society.

To that end, just off the top of my head, she has helped women escape persecution in Afghanistan, set up a woman-only rape support centre for those women who need single sex support and funded a new research centre into neurological diseases. Highlighting the injustices gender ideology is imposing on women, while yes, clearly important given her reach and safety from coercive control, is hardly the only thing she does!

But anyway, enough of the derail.

Whats your view of the actual point of thread and the violent rapist larping as a woman and throwing his toys out the pram because he’s not allowed to be locked up with vulnerable female prisoners?

The Harry Potter movies (which she had no involvement in other than the books being used as a source material) which involved the hard work and talents of hundreds of actors and crew becoming successful may have helped a little too.

I actually love the fact that she’s so wealthy through her own talent and yet she still spends time and money fighting to support vulnerable girls and women. She constantly puts her money where her mouth is and she’s never forgotten where she came from

I think she’s a very happy and content woman who knows she’s in a privileged position and she is very socially aware.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/11/2024 14:16

Yes, the "source material" being her creation Confused

Indeed. Without her books there would be no movies.

Might as well write off Shakespeare then as being irrelevant if that’s the criteria

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/11/2024 14:20

OK everyone, any chance we could all stop engaging with MrPloppy until he answers the question... what do you think about the rapist in question?

I know, I'm just as bad with engaging. <sits on hands>

GC5 · 05/11/2024 14:20

Kendodd · 03/11/2024 14:30

Actually I disagree with most on here and think the more people like Isla speak the better. Nothing shines light on the issue more than a trans rapist ranting that trans women should be in charge of rape crisis centres.

Completely agree. And given how many TRAs seem to think that if you share one view with someone unsavoury then you must share all views with them, if anything it is helpful at dealing with that particularly annoying argument.

The logic never gets any better, does it?

You don't have her money, because you don't have her talent.

But if you did have her money you'd go on holiday all the time. And that would make you happy.

But her doing what she wants doesn't make her happy.

you think that she should be doing what you want, and that would make her happy 😆

(but not rich, obviously. Which rather brings us back to the beginning of endless holidays!)

🤣

Edited for the never-ending sarcasm that just couldn't help writing itself

annejumps · 05/11/2024 14:31

I know TRAs really need to believe JKR and other evil terves are bitter, jealous, etc. They were thrilled when they decided that her silence on X meant she was scared of Imane Khelif taking the IP rights to HP, less so when it turned out she was on vacation (in Iceland, was it?) for her birthday.

BestEffort · 05/11/2024 14:40

@Christinapple JK does not have a thing about trans women. She has a thing about protecting women and children. She's so vocal about it because her fame and money give her the ability to do so where many women are unable to speak on it. She is doing a public service. She is raising awareness. She gets more positive feedback from women grateful for what she's doing and who are in awe of her humor and talent than she gets hate. You can make your sweeping statements all you like but you do not speak for the majority.

And yes many people with that amount of money would not be on social media fighting for a cause at great personal expense. Truely selfless people are incredibly rare

BestEffort · 05/11/2024 14:44

Sorry hard not to engage.

Just need to correct an error of fact. JK Rowling was involved in the Harry Potter films. She had opinions on casting, was asked about the scripts. She was even producer of the deathly hallows and turned down producer of goblet of fire. She was highly involved
