Letter signed and sent.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/10/2024 13:08

I was hoping to add a little bit to the end, so my mp can't just dismiss it as spam from a click-tivist. The email keeps defaulting to the standard one though and, as far as I can tell deleting my additions.

I wanted to put something in about the Cass Review and 'transing away the gay', imo the real conversion therapy.

Anyone else tried this?

This is obviously the deal they did with Stonewall to shut them up.

At the bottom of the page you can choose to have the email sent to your email address. Then you can amend it before sending it on to your MP. I tried this and it works!

Brilliant, I'll do that. Thank you.

I dont think this is news. They always said they would do this.

But what is disturbing is to see the wording on convertion therapy, which they have been, in public, woolly about.

On the Conversion Practices Bill:

  • Conversion practices are abuse. They have no place in society and must be stopped.
  • The Government is committed to delivering a full, trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices, to be brought forward via a draft Conversion Practices Bill.

And more bizarrely why this has been included in an area of work that is about being inclusive.

So whilst I have doubts about anything that Labour says, not sure there is much value in a complaint about a unit that is just a rebrand of an existing one.

Far better to focus on something specificallly questionable as Labour's approach to conversion therapy.

And why they have inappropriately added it to the remit of this unit.

That's the question why did they do this.

Is it because they think they can bring this in via the back door?

BjornTheFellHanded · 29/10/2024 17:35

No it's not news.

It's woolly, deliberately because they want to see what the public mood is, then they can bend to that mood without changing the announcements.

Thats exactly why we should be sending letters to them - to make sure that psychotherapy that is non affirming is welcomed and indeed encouraged - but beating people with sticks, for example, is not welcome - thats exactly what we want

I just meant a general letter about the new unit isn't much use.

And of the list they put forward it is extremely odd to include conversion therapy as though somehow that is a barrier to be fully included.

And as this is such an important issue, best to use our energy on that.

Could this affect women with female separatist beliefs who suggest to bisexual women that they'd be better off being lesbian in practice?

Important to remember this:

The Women and Equalities Committee examines the work of the Government Equalities Office (GEO). It holds Government to account on equality law and policy, including the Equality Act 2010 and cross Government activity on equalities. It also scrutinises the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

As yet, there are no Tories on the new W&EC(!!) see this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5198402-new-members-of-the-womens-and-equality-committee-announced-not-much-hope-there

I imagine Labour is hoping its majority there will rubber stamp proposals for GEO. But on the other hand the W&EC does (always?) hold public consultations. Which can have an impact. Remember the consultation on the GRA ...
