So due to the Scottish government's and prison/crt stupid policy of recording someone's sex by how they present a female prisoner was sent to a maximum security MENS prison with the mistake only being discovered when she was strip searched by male staff. Instead of transferring her straight to a woman's prison they kept her in segregation in the men's prison overnight!
This shit has to end now and sex must be recorded

When someone is up on a charge in front of a court, I think the court (including the judge/magistrate, jury members, and, indeed, the gen pub watching) have the right to know the relevant details about the defendant, including their sex. I don't think people should have the right to try to obscure their sex.

Is the utter blatancy of it that gets me.

They can pretend they believe in the ideology right up to the point where they suddenly can't.

I thought it was very funny that in the Telegraph article the prison authorities claimed it happened because they had incomplete information about the prisoner's gender. No luv you didn't need to know about her gender. You failed to find out her sex.

The Reddit comments have now been vigorously modded, so it's just a bunch of people agreeing with one another that the terfs caused this.

Reddit is so frustrating for this. I pop onto threads every so often to try to give an alternative point of view but it's just shouting into the void. There is little empathy from the majority of (I assume) male "allies", who are so divorced from women's practical experience of the world that they remind me of theologians arguing about angels on a pinhead. Always the ludicrous hyperbole about genital inspections and tattoos on foreheads, rather than the messy reality - that a social contract which worked for the most part to accommodate the odd trans person is now being tested to breaking point, so that yes, butch-looking women are caught up in the fallout. That doesn't make this situation the fault of "terfs".

We don't even know all the facts as to why the normal procedure for assigning prisoners broke down, so it's pointless to speculate about until we do.

They were in a tricky position even if they suspected. How do they tackle that? Accuse a slightly effeminate man of not looking manly enough, or let a woman into a high security men’s prison.

Yes. A born female who'd had a mastectomy, had a beard, and used a male name and 'identified' as a man.

Sounds like the crimes involved were horribly violent, including permanent disfigurement.

Women who take testosterone can often look like pretty convincing men.

So this is a new problem for society to deal with - women putting themselves at risk by 'passing' as men. How long is that deception going to last in prison? Are male prison officers expected to search this woman? Are women in womens estate going to be intimidated and triggered by a male-presentng woman?

Since when was it policy in Scotland to house all trans inmates according to their biological/birth sex? I thought only the extremely violent and rapist transgender (oops, not transgender because they were having it on) people were prevented from being allocated according to their “gender identity”?

I thought so too, but tbh they lie and obfuscate and shift things about so frequently I'm not sure anyone really knows what's policy and what's actually going on. Don't forget there were attempts to make it illegal to even report on where trans people being sent to prison quite recently

Since the bryson debacle the new policy is that they go straight to the correct sex prison for assessment and then they decide if they will be at risk of hurt feelings in the correct sex prison, if they will be at risk of physical harm in the wrong sex prison and then finally if their presence in the wrong sexed prison would cause an UNACCEPTABLE risk to the other prisoners (with no explanation of what an acceptable risk is).
Due to this assessment process it seems to be transmen in women's jail due to the risk of rape to a female in a male prison and transwomen in a woman's prison due to the risk of hurt feelings if a man is denied access to women

I would disagree with letting them as you have a duty of care, but that is totally different from equating letting someone put themselves at risk to letting someone put others at risk.

She could have a neutral name like Vivien, Evelyn etc which can be male or female. Even so the story makes no sense whatsoever.
