They sent a woman to a man's prison

Hoardasurass · 27/10/2024 10:05

So due to the Scottish government's and prison/crt stupid policy of recording someone's sex by how they present a female prisoner was sent to a maximum security MENS prison with the mistake only being discovered when she was strip searched by male staff. Instead of transferring her straight to a woman's prison they kept her in segregation in the men's prison overnight!
This shit has to end now and sex must be recorded

Scots prison staff sent woman to all-male nick after mistaking her for a man

The female prisoner was processed as a man - based on her appearance - and taken to Perth Prison by a court escort crew by mistake.

I don't understand, was she a transman?
Did she have a male name and use male pronouns? Or disn she just look like a man?

Was she not asked at any point?

Seems very strange.

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 27/10/2024 10:29

That story has been written as if it intentionally lacks clarity.

I've no idea what happened to additional intake papers but have no idea of what happens in processing in Scots prisons.

Is it possible that the prisoner didn't object to being searched by male officers? Did object but was ignored until the search happened?

I suspect this story will remain unclear if only to protect the privacy of the prisoner.

FizzyPopGal · 27/10/2024 10:46

Could she have been trying to 'make a point?'.
Surely no woman would intentionally and genuinely try and get sent to a men's prison, it's a death wish.

SilenceInside · 27/10/2024 10:51

Seriously bad systems if the court could process someone without being fully aware of their identity, by which I mean their name, age and sex. Not what the person may or may not identify as.

Worriedandsuspicious · 27/10/2024 10:55

Bloody dangerous..

ShowmetheBotox · 27/10/2024 11:02

The article is purposely confusing.

It’s written as though they just seen a woman with short hair and automatically took her to a men’s prison.

There must have been a prisoner list so I assume she must have been using male name too. I doubt they just get a group of men and shove them in the back of the van not knowing who they are transporting.

I wonder if it was noted at the strip search because you’d hsve a lot to say BEFORE it even got to that point if it had been a mistake.

And if she did want to go in there I would have left her because some form of accountability needs to be taken here from the women who are also driving this. The trans men have actually done a lot of damage regarding maternity care and I’ve lost sympathy

Gettingbysomehow · 27/10/2024 11:04

This is what happens when all this gender shit is out of control.

Soontobe60 · 27/10/2024 11:08

There’s so much missing from the story - likely on purpose. A person found guilty and sent to prison will already be known to be male / female / trans by the courts nd their legal representative. It’s not like the transport just rocks up at the cells and asks if they’ve got anyone that needs a lift to jail!
My guess is that the person is F2M trans identifying, has M as their sex on their documentation, perhaps with a GRC even, so was automatically sent to a male prison.

FearOfTheDucks · 27/10/2024 11:08

Very confusing. There's another very similar article here https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/13762280/prison-staff-sent-woman-to-male-jail/ which states that she was biologically female but had 'some masculine features'.

I suspect that the prisoner was a transman who didn't object to being taken to a men's prison, not realising how incredibly dangerous that would be for her. But then the articles say that the staff 'wrongly identified the gender' - can't tell if they're using it as a synonym for sex not knowing how ideologically charged the terminology is, or if it's intentional to try to obscure what's really going on here.

FizzyPopGal · 27/10/2024 11:09

"And if she did want to go in there I would have left her because some form of accountability needs to be taken here from the women who are also driving this."

Then you would have to let all the males go into women's prisons who just 'want to go there' for whatever reasons.

Many transmen are very mentally unwell women who suffer from sexual trauma responses that make them feel safer being perceived as male. They are quite often autistic.

If you think we should just let vulnerable women into men's prisons to be raped and murdered because they 'ask for it' I think you need as much help as them.

Don’t put words in my mouth.

But yes I’m done caring about people that are intentionally making life very difficult for other women.

TempestTost · 27/10/2024 11:33

I totally think there are transmen who would go along with this.

I don't really understand why it's shocking that they kept her there in segregation until the next day though, that's what I'd expect them to do. There are reams of paperwork to be done in prisons and they would have had to sort out all kinds of things before sending her off somewhere else. It's not the title of "men's prison" that makes it dangerous, it's actually being in with men.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 27/10/2024 12:17

'The woman appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Monday and was remanded in custody by a sheriff. The prisoner was then processed as a man - based on her appearance - and taken to Perth Prison by a court escort crew. '

based on her appearance - is this like the SPS version of the sorting hat? Be good to know exactly what went on here. If the woman was identifying as a man I'd be surprised at the papers explicitly calling her a woman and using pronouns based on sex.

Then again, 'transwomen' tend to be respected wrt pronouns and ladywords, while 'transmen' tend to have their special identity roundly ignored in these situations. Almost as if men have more attention paid to their demands.

No - you said I think trans men should be raped and murdered.

I never said that - YOU did.

What do you think would happen to women in mens prisons, regardless of how they identify??
If you say let them be in there, it's their own problem, that is what you are sanctioning. Transmen, whether you like it or not, are statisically vulnerable women who need protecting (even if it is from their own decisions)

ginasevern · 27/10/2024 12:49

This doesn't stack up. Her sex would have been known/recorded by the police and the courts. She also had a tongue in her head presumably.

The police record sex based on self id and/or gender appearance in Scotland

Isn't it awful? If as people surmise, this is a transman, then again it highlights the extent to which this generation of young women have been gaslit to ignore their own vulnerabilities - ie pretend that they don't exist as opposed to working out how to tackle and deal with them.
Politicians and leaders should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for their complicity in all this. When Starmer etc wibble on about trans as the most vulnerable people in the world he of course is referring to the powerful men - many with AGP - who Labour wine and dine with who have inserted themselves at the top of the vulnerability tree. The rest of us know that it's these young people, gaslit by these organisations and powerful men who are the vulnerable ones. When things like this happen - they're alone until someone in power realises the optics of what is likely to happen to them in a men's prison and decides to cover their backs.

She could sit in solitary confinement for the duration.

Like I said I’ve no sympathy for them - I’ve seen too many screaming in women’s faces - who were trying to protect them.

And it’s actually these women who have caused the ridiculous policy changes in maternity. Not the men.

No sympathy anymore they have caused too much damage. I’ve every sympathy for teenage girls but not the adults.

Solitary confinement for long term isb inhumane and fairly sure it's illegal

Reminds of the transman who was raped and afterwards told people that she'd kept telling him she was a man but he still didn't stop.

😔 oh that is tragic

these poor young women - the damage that had been done

YellowAsteroid · 27/10/2024 17:47

Oh, but transmen are men, aren't they?

I feel for the woman who, even if presenting as vaguely masculine-looking, is hugely at risk in a male prison. But if they''re going to chant the mantra "transmen are men" what DO they expect?
