Hopefully this is the English version

It’s not…😥
Wish I had paid more attention in school.

mauvish · 23/10/2024 19:28

It's not. But it's all very confusing -- "Two trans women, father and son, request a private bathroom etc etc"

If they are Trans WOMEN, how can they be father and son?

I haven't read the whole page but scroll down and you'll see a pic of Sandra Leon, who had decided to change sex (NB that's what it says, not gender) "because I don't identify with the definition of man as a potential oppressor or rapist". NB Sandra has kept their moustache. But can you not be a man and still be against oppression and rape? Maybe I'll understand more if I read the whole article but I rather suspect it's not a translation from Spanish that's needed, but a hefty dose of common sense.

Hey ho.

Snowypeaks · 23/10/2024 19:43

Google Translate worked for me - this is the text:

Two men from Arganda del Rey , father and son , who have recently changed sex in accordance with the Trans Law , have requested a private bathroom in the municipality's sports facilities, after feeling reprimanded by some of the female users of the center.

This situation of non-coexistence has led the City Council to request a solution from the Ministry of Equality , with the intention of receiving a procedure for action for this type of cases. The mayor, Alberto Escribano, denounced the problem publicly last week, but, as he confirmed to esRadio, he has not yet received any response from the ministry headed by Ana Redondo.

The mayor, Alberto Escribano, denounced the problem publicly last week, but, as he confirmed to esRadio, he has not yet received any response from the ministry headed by Ana Redondo.

The same protagonist - legally a woman since March - has also stated that her experience and the climate of tension in the Virgen del Carmen sports centre in La Poveda has worsened over time. "The first month, while the Patron Saint Festivities are going on, I am going to the gym and nothing happens, although there are some women who are surprised and ask, but everything is relatively normal. Until the festivities end and the mess starts," she explained in an interview with Diario de Arganda.

Problem of coexistence
The situation turned violent when a group of more than 20 older women "cornered" her in the locker room , where she was insulted, she said in the same testimony, and, fearing for her safety, she decided to call the police. Although the authorities advised her to file a complaint for a hate crime, she chose not to do so.

The trans woman has denounced the City Council's refusal to provide a separate bathroom in the facilities, despite having "personally" requested a private room to change. In this regard, she has assured that "I am the first one who agrees to isolate myself in a room alone because I don't want problems."

However, the mayor, in statements to Telemadrid , stressed that the City Council "cannot act" without a procedure that respects the rights granted by the Government's Trans Law , given the uncomfortable situation that women in the municipality are experiencing, who feel "totally unprotected."

"As soon as I step in there, it explodes."
In the same interview, the trans woman has stated that all she wants is for the claims that she refused a private bathroom to be proven false. In fact, she has said that at the moment she is not going to the sports centre facilities to avoid problems - like her son - which has helped to calm the situation, but she has warned that she intends to do so. "As soon as I step in there, this will explode," she said.

Tell you what, lads - just use the men's changing room. You won't stand out there.

The link gave me an English translation - here's some of it:

...The now legally woman, has not changed her name or appearance and is still married to his wife, but with the procedures of the Trans Law she now appears as a woman on her identity document, as does her son.
...

You beat me to it, Snowypeaks Smile
Thanks for posting the whole article. Oh what a tangled web, eh?

Bannedontherun · 23/10/2024 21:05

I had to laugh at the older women, god love them.

DisappearingGirl · 23/10/2024 21:09

Who could ever have predicted that this would cause a problem?

PriOn1 · 23/10/2024 22:18

Maybe, just maybe, they should have thought it through before introducing an extremist law!

Quite like the sound of the women backing him into a corner. Go, go Spanish wimms!

I've met quite a few Spanish granny's and all I can say is I wouldn't want to be a man in that situation, they are formidable women 😆

Myalternate · 23/10/2024 22:35

I’m not denying his claims about being confronted by a group of women at the Sports Centre, but I find it extremely unlikely that they were granny’s 😳

WomanXXWorldsOriginsofMothersofAllNations · 23/10/2024 22:37

Is this a translation error or has the reporter dropped transphobic breadcrumbs all over the place?

"father and son"

"has not changed her name or appearance and is still married to his wife"

Why has his son joined in?

So many questions!

I hope the wife / mother is ok.

My granny was Catalan and 4’10 - I wouldn’t take her on 🤣

dapsnotplimsolls · 23/10/2024 22:45

Awww, diddums.

Bannedontherun · 23/10/2024 22:46

I am a “granny” and would be more inclined to say something in the circumstances than my younger self would have, age affords some level of, well less subtle behaviour shall we say.

drspouse · 23/10/2024 22:50

I can't access the link but the following need to be different in Spanish for men/women:
Father
Son
He (as in, he said...)
Him (sometimes, as in "I met him")
But his/her is the same word so that could be just translation.

Father and son = padre e hijo

Mother and daughter = Madre e hija

So there's a clear translatable difference there.

“now appears as a woman on her identity document, as does her son”

Isn’t this a quote from something? Is it Life of Brian?

SinnerBoy · 23/10/2024 23:43

mauvish · Today 23:18

Father and son = padre e hijo

He sounds like something of a hijo da puta, to me!

“I’m Brian and so is my wife.”

mauvish · 24/10/2024 07:34

Actually I don't think the Spanish version mentions the age of the women who have confronted this man - it just says "other women users"

I can't get the page to change back to Spanish - what does it say (I do speak Spanish, as you can see from the above).

By the way in case the above didn't make sense, "su esposa" could mean "his wife" OR "her wife".

La situación se tornó violenta cuando un grupo de más de 20 mujeres mayores la "acorraló" en el vestuario, donde recibió insultos, según cuenta en el mimo testimonio, y, temiendo por su seguridad, decidió llamar a la policía.

I think 'mujeres mayores' means 'older women' doesn't it?

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 24/10/2024 10:39

I wonder whether they are pranksters or stealth pro-feminists who are trying to protest against this ridiculous law. If so, its not working, given they were straight-facedly advised to complain of a hate crime on being driven out of the women's changing room.🙄😕

mauvish · 24/10/2024 11:36

Ah yes, I didn't see the "mayores" bit, you're right

drspouse · 24/10/2024 13:02

It does - older than you, or "elderly".
