Finally some clear court reporting

Just wanted to share this court report which really goes against the grain for Reach and regional court reporting in general. Kudos to the reporter.

Clear image of the offender, male name in intro, referred to in copy only by the surname he now 'identifies as'. Refreshing to see this 'incredibly dangerous individual' clearly exposed for what he is.

No “she” anywhere.

Brewdug · 23/10/2024 11:42

Not even in the quote from the police, who stick with 'they'!

Previously with a story like this the Echo would have no truck with a headline like 'woman jailed for child sex offences' with a straight face. Look at the difference this factual accuracy makes. It stands out a mile. Hope it's not just a one off.

Excellent.

And he actually got a custodial sentence which, sadly, is not guaranteed and is therefore something to celebrate.

I think they're trying to gloss over the fact of his alleged trans identity. It's referenced, briefly, in the first paragraph but only as a new name. The picture of him in the cheap wig isn't published and no male pronouns are used for him. It feels like the so called trans community are being guarded though. I don't blame them, who would want to be associated with this guy.

MelodyMalone · 23/10/2024 12:12

The report very obviously avoids using any pronouns for him.

I'd prefer they say "he", which he is, but as long as they're not using "she", I'm ok with it.

Does it not occur to anybody that this "prolific sex offender" is adopting a female identity because he thinks it will get him closer to children? It must do, yet they have to go along with it.

Has the sky fallen in yet?

As an aside, he got only 40 months!
