Hurrah for the Satanic Temple!

I mean, I've got no particular interest in Satanism (or any other religion) but I rather like their style.

"The Satanic Temple has just opened its second telehealth abortion clinic, this time in Virginia. It’s called the Right to Your Life Satanic Abortion Clinic. “We’re also actively working to increase access in other states, including taking legal action in restrictive states such as Indiana and Idaho to provide religious abortion services there as well,” the temple said in a statement"

The Satanic Temple is taking on the Christian right. It may be effective – it’s definitely fun | Arwa Mahdawi

Recognized as a religion by the IRS, the group uses the religious right’s tactics, and their victories, against them

🤣😆

It is about raising hell to fight for freedom from the religious right’s crusade to impose their beliefs on everyone else.

I like their style, especially the part where they wanted their devil statue 😂

Thanks for posting OP!

Genius.

OuterSpaceCadet · 21/10/2024 07:01

That's fantastically clever

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 21/10/2024 07:06

I wonder if they admit to knowing what a woman is.

Mumteedum · 21/10/2024 07:32

There was an excellent documentary about them a few years ago. Can't remember what it was called but is recommend it if you can find it.

Janie143 · 21/10/2024 09:07

I've read their whole website. It is a masterpiece to demonstrate how the right to non-belief can be used for good. The FAQ section is superb and makes it clear they do not believe in or worship the devil.

Well that particular Guardian journalist doesn't so it pisses me off to see her casually using the term in such an uncomplicated (ie correct) way. Or maybe it should make me happy. I dunno. Just not fond of hypocrites (she's one of many who signed the bullying letter against Suzanne Moore). I don't remember all of them but have vague connection with this individual and my extreme disappointment seared her name in my brain).

Whatever happened to Pastafarians? This used to be exactly their kind of shtick.

There’s a bit in the article about them having requested a monument to the Flying Spaghetti Monster alongside the 10 Commandments and Baphomet statues.

Janie143 · 21/10/2024 09:36

Not sure if pastafairan church recognized as a legitimate belief in the USA but the Satanic Temple is. So they can legitimately use the law.

I think they're more satirical than serious rights campaigners?

It was probably Hail Satan? Good documentary. While I generally agree with this organisations stance on topics, including abortion, they lost me when they required covid vaccination to attend their events. Seems to go against their whole ethos. Also they do not support women's sex based rights.

Mumteedum · 21/10/2024 20:03

@Firealarm1414 that was it. Thanks.

I don't remedy much about them. Just that it was a good documentary.

The Satanic Temple are a mixed bag lots of internal discord over gender etc their leader got cancelled for having a picture taken though also the hroup is quite centralised. It seems Satanists are getting intolerant of different thinking. There is a good article from Helen Lewis;

A Satanic Rebellion
Social justice collides with the Satanic Temple.
