ECB bans transgender women from top two tiers of women’s domestic cricket

Why just the top two tiers? 'It's impossible to balance all the considerations', apparently.
It's not impossible though, is it? Women (and trans men if they wish, if they're not on testosterone) play in female cricket; men (and trans women, and anyone else with a handy dose of male puberty) play in male cricket, and everyone can concentrate on rooting out homophobia and transphobia from sport.

It's "mixed gender" teams under this policy and that is little better than "women's" teams for informed consent because the ECB allows males to play as women. So a team of half men and half women could find themselves up against an all-male team.

What? That's beyond bizarre.

I simply don't understand the logic of this:
If there are good reasons to ban XY from some types of female cricket, why don't those reasons apply to all female cricket?
It's like saying women and girls will be disadvantaged, but we're ok with that.

I love how they always use the word "banned" to get people all riled up.

Calm down, they're not banned, just like men aren't banned from women's sports; they just don't qualify for that category. 25 year olds aren't banned from the Under 18 team; they just aren't eligible!

Yes, as usual, raging with the bollocky injustice of these things. But even DH can see this is a complete farce, and before his morning cuppa too. Perhaps this and the well written Telegraph article may get through a few more dense male skulls and do some good.

In those circumstances it’s only fair they are told in advance the opposition is fielding a mixed sex team. It would mean they don’t waste time and money travelling to fixtures and/or arranging childcare or time off work.

I’ve just seen the bit about transmen being excluded on all fronts. How is that not indirect sex discrimination? Do ECB not have legal advisors?

This shows that the board don’t seem to have understood what female athletes have campaigned for. Maybe they have not understood the terminology used?

They will have to change it to be very specific and use the sex people are and not the sex they demand to treated but are not. As discussed so often here, all female people play with other female people as long as they are not taking substances that produce physical advantage.

Do we think they’ve gotten muddled and think a trans man is a man who is transitioning to woman and a trans woman is a woman transitioning to man?

Because otherwise they’re putting any trans man at risk, by stating they can only play with men.

How will this ever encourage girls and women to play sport and continue playing?

So in a sport where they acknowledge the difference in biological sex (different boundary sizes for men and women); and where there are issues with bringing players up to the elite levels; let alone interest in the sport (The Hundred is quite controversial is some areas and most of the sport is not free to watch); they expect women and girls to play with men (and the advantage to scoring that those men have) and not lose interest in a game stacked against them.

How on earth do they think they’ve even considered fairness and equality in the sport, when they’ve stacked everything against women and girls? There’s no elite level of sport if you’ve chased out the women and girls in the lower levels in favour of Men, regardless of how they feel.

Nope. Here are their definitions.

Their definitions are contradictory then. Is it 11.2 that you posted earlier @NoBinturongsHereMate or that transguff above about the magical sorting hat that assigns babies a sex when they're born?

Transmen are accepted in the gender they 'know themsleves to be' and therefore magically become the matching sex.

They also specifically say on that definitions page that both sex and gender are a spectrum, and that being trans (not the usual 'being intersex' claim) is as common as red hair.

So they haven't a clue what they're talking about and have clearly done a cut and paste job of various bits of propaganda with no understanding whatsoever.

There's a reason sport is segregated by sex, when it is. Gender feelings have nothing to do with it whatsoever

They have banned transmen, and women who identify as non-binary, from playing on women's teams at any level. Even if not on hormones.

Crikey, if there's ever been a more striking example of missing the point entirely, I'm not aware of it.
