That is loin of pork. This is belly pork.

And I could eat that right now! It looks delicious!

Igmum · 10/10/2024 22:35

Ahhh thank you @Boiledbeetle I needed that drink, and the one I'm having now, and the few lined up on the bar (hic) 🍸🍸🍸🍸

Roasted belly pork is the food of the gods.

Succulent was invented just to describe it. And nobody has found a word to describe the crackling.

This is true.

I think it must stem from my late mothers gravy making (possibly rather thin). Her other cooking was good, but we didn't agree on gravy.

I get that! I cannot eat macaroni cheese as it was one of the few things my mother would cook! That and stuffed marrow! She unfortunately had very little sense of smell or taste and was an atrocious cook!

She did make very good bread though, I think she used to pretend the dough was my dad's face at the kneeding stage!

Of course, do bring your eating irons over here.

I shall build a dam of mashed potato, to keep the gravy back.

My dad used to talk about eating irons. I’ve not heard that term used for decades.

Sigh.

My attempts were less successful. Not helped by the fact the first time the text autocorrected dam to fan!

I think the AI is heading towards a total meltdown, poor soul.
Than you so much @ifIwerenotanandroid , I love the boots and brolly

lcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2024 08:52

Those red wellies look very natty and the pork, potatoes and gravy I could eat the whole dam thing.

BTW, I don't know if the pigs have got wind of Labour's House building commitments or something else but I noticed this morning they're putting wee thatched cottages up everywhere. They're fairly easy to tidy away, the pigs don't seem to mind, but the gerbils have moved into some (as doer uppers) and at least one's been let to a quokka at a frankly extortionate rent. They get very upset if you remove one of 'their' cottages.

Mashed potato? With a ROAST?
Am I eating with a heathen?

lcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2024 09:04

What about mashed carrot and swede with lots of butter? Asking for a...friend. <anxious>

DeanElderberry · 11/10/2024 09:27

That picture with the fan looks unsettlingly like images of failures of wastewater treatment in England.

Don't swim in the gravy lake. Don't touch that thing that looks like a Yorkshire pudding.

MarieDeGournay · 11/10/2024 09:44

The Bluestocking series keeps bringing me face-to-face with my own ignorance.
Quokkas, exocet meaning flying fish... and now degu?? Whassat?

So I looked it up on Wikipedia:
The common degu , or, historically, the degu, is a small hystricomorpha rodent endemic to the Chilean matorral ecoregion of central Chile. The name degu on its own indicates either the entire genus Octodon or, more commonly, just the common degu.

and now I know that some of them are common [oh dear!], they have a history [well don't we all?] they are hystricomorphic, they are endemic; that Chile has an ecoregion in the middle that is matorral ; and then there's the entire genus Octodon.

Well that was helpful😏

I think I'm happy enough just knowing they are cute little furry things who come from the same continent as Paddington. And fortunately for them, they aren't piggies...

lcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2024 09:49

I think a few years ago a bunch of them were found abandoned in the dunes on the Fylde coast. Although perhaps they weren't abandoned, perhaps they'd drifted there across the Atlantic.

Good to know they're from South America. The tegu, the lizard upthread that misread the sign, is from Argentina 🇦🇷.

Boiledbeetle · 11/10/2024 12:19

I have a new stop cock! And a fixed and sealed bath overflow! And the shower has stopped (fingers crossed) leaking all over the place!

I shall celebrate by having a few goes on the zipwire, I've just sent the quokkas to move the left over gravy bowser from last night to the bottom of the zipwire rather than rely on the inflatable pool filled with gravy that's currently floating half way down the course.

Excellent. That temporary fix you devised was an almost perfect fusion of physics and bodging.

Think I'll join you on the zip wire.

I was building piñatas and a puzzle box for degus this morning. Maybe I should branch out into traditional pub games for them.

Degus love a piñata full of oats and peanuts. They get very enthusiastic.

They also turn their backs on each other and slap each other with their tails when disputing the share of peanuts, which is a surreal form of duelling.

Helloooo everyone!

I am about to become a pensioner - I turn 60 in December, and will get my pension from when I was a nurse. Now all I need is the white hair in a bun, a nice, knitted rug on my lap and I am all set for old-ladyhood.

I believe a cat & a rocking chair may be required, too.

And an electric scooter so you can mow down annoying people in the town centre
