I think the mot place is about three miles but it went there last year on the tow truck, so three miles home and I think I drove to the post office last Christmas and did one actual shop at the nearest supermarket! Then back onto the tow truck this morning!!

I don't get out much!!

The neighbour who hates my car being permanently parked outside my own house (he nearly drove me to do a parking thread once) will be currently very confused. My car has mysteriously disappeared as it was there when he left this morning only to be replaced by a car that is going to the scrap yard at the weekend! So it's just going to be sat there all week with a disabled badge in the window. He'll be going gaga by Saturday!

I've just been adding up and apart from being in the 27 thpusand and something mileage since 2018 in the past 4 years I've done a grand total of 46 miles!

Such low mileage! Are you thinking of selling it? (Asking for a friend)

I've just popped in and what an exciting competition I missed! I wouldn't have won anyway.

I know having a car, even if you don't use it much, can represent the freedom to hop into it and go wherever you want to , whenever you want to - even if that's nowhere and rarely! - so I hope giving it up was OK Boily.

I'm holding on to mine, though it rarely goes farther than down the road a bit to collect my prescription.

A cool-looking mobility scooter is an attractive idea😎

I also see I missed a challenge about a possessive apostrophe-
in x hours time? or hours' time?
I'm pretty sure I'd put the apostrophe in. It feels more apostrophe-ish than 'nurses station'. But I can't offer any justification other than feelz. And we all know how important they are😈

I'm thinking that now i don't have the car I might buy one of those mobility scooters that looks a motorbike with three wheels!!I

That or one of the automatic folding ones that is small enough to fit in the dining room!

I'm torn!

Missed this bit! I was trying to edit out an unwanted man from the picture of the beetle with Beetle 😬 ... so it's gone! Booo

It's gone to my sister her car was going to fail its mot at the end of the month. Merry Christmas to my sister!

It's a 2006 car! So very low mileage! It had one elderly driver before me, who only did 23 something when he had it! And I've had it it since 2009 and only added 4000 to it

lcakethereforeIam · 21/10/2024 19:33

The time that belongs to however many numbers of hours. An apostrophe somewhere wouldn't seem out of place to me. I still struggle with where to put the apostrophe with a plural or a noun that ends with an 's'.

Eta

James Esses would be my nightmare to punctuate!

Further eta

Or say. I'd sound like I'd sprung a puncture.

Nurses in "nurses' station" has to have an apostrophe. Otherwise, it's ambiguous. Could be a statement about someone who nurses a station.

I decided to check my daily commute, off the back of Boily's mileage. I do more than 6 miles every weekday!

inkymoose · 21/10/2024 19:40

I drove to Scotland a few months ago from my home in South West England, a journey there and back of nearly 1000 miles. I can never aspire to 6 miles per year...

I think that's why I've kept hold of it! I liked the idea of knowing it was there if I needed it! Plus the thought of giving it up meant accepting I'm no longer well enough to drive it. I held onto it for much longer than I should have really!I

I'm probably going to spend the next six months umming and ahhing over what to replace it with As the taxis here are shockingly bad! That's the problem with living in deepest darkest Peru! No uber!

You can if I nick your starter motor and your battery and put a slow puncture in all your tires and glue the petrol flap shut! 😁

Oh, I was too late! I love a good simple logic puzzle. I’d got it down to 1 of 3 digits, when I read the answer.

More, please.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

Sainsburys Christmas slots open around midnight tomorrow (i.e. 1 day 8 hours time*).

*= open invitation to Marie to tell us discuss whether hours needs an apostrophe.

Anyone know when Tesco ones open?

Thank you for the reminder, I have a pass so have just booked my Christmas delivery! The only available slot was 2-3pm on Christmas eve! Pffft!

I won't be ordering anything I'm needing/wanting for Christmas day then!!! That will have to be the week before!

So...are you just really good at shoplifting then?

Also, somehow today I ended up on strange pages of ebay & found firstly this wonderful account:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?item=387286469475&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197&_ssn=craftyoldbugger

They have pages of patterns going back to the 1950's. Brought back memories of poring over pattern catalogues.

And then these bizarre listings of plants which look like animals :-)
