LWS Morpeth will take place in a sublime venue - you really do not want to miss this!

We are so pleased to welcome Kellie-Jay Keen to Northumberland and are looking forward to hearing you speak! There will also be time to meet everyone, to chat and get something to eat and drink nearby after the event.

We will post directions to the Morpeth LWS venue a couple of days before the event.

Car parking

  • Free in Morpeth on Sundays. You do not need a Parking Disk.

Mainline trains

  • East Coast Line

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday 13th October!

Please book a FREE ticket if you are coming so that we have an idea of numbers.
We need to give this information to Northumbria Police (who did a good job at LWS Newcastle in Jan 2023).

A very successful event and given incidents at other LWS Events I am very pleased to report that Northumbria Police were fantastic. I am pretty sure there were more police than protesters.

As well as the line of police between the LWS women and the protesters there were:

  • police standing with the women
  • police stationed at the main gate to the park ensuring that protesters could not obstruct entry
  • police stationed near the Aviary beside the women, to ensure protesters could not gain access via the William Turner Garden
  • police stationed at the path that leads down from the town, to ensure that protesters could not approach the Gazebo from behind through the wooded area
  • police escorting women to the post-event venue
  • police stationed outside the post-event venue in case of any problems.

This was because the combination of threats on social media, incidents at previous LWS events and briefings by the local organisers was taken extremely seriously by Northumbria Police.

In the event, only a raggle-taggle of protesters turned up. The usual, sadly very unhealthy-looking young people dressed or draped in "trans colours" plus some shouty men in black.

I am really annoyed with myself that I didn't video the shouty men in black as I left. The ludicrous sight of a bunch of beardy blokes chanting, "We are the feminists! We are the feminists!" 😂

As well as the excellent Daily Mail articles - online and in print - there were two interviews on TALK TV, one with KJK and one with Venice Allan, and a smashing pre-event puff piece in the Northumberland Gazette.

Global movement called 'Let Women Speak' to hold an event at statue in Morpeth

A global movement called ‘Let Women Speak’ is holding an event in Morpeth at the weekend.

It will take place at the Emily Wilding Davison statue in Carlisle Park on Sunday, October 13 from 1pm to 3pm.

A section of the Let Women Speak website about the event includes the following: “At Let Women Speak we foster a community in which all women feel empowered to speak. We achieve this through our free speech events, they are free to attend.

“We are so proud that women across the world are using the #LetWomenSpeak hashtag as a rallying cry.

“There are no tickets, anyone can turn up and anyone can speak (but we ask that men wait until the end). You can speak about whatever you like – these are free speech events.”

"Feminist Claire" also posted a lovely video advertising the event:

My “trip advisor” review of the famous statue of Emily Wilding Davison in Morpeth, Northumberland. I visited months ago, and really enjoyed it! ‪@KellieJayKeen‬ and the Terven Horde of #LetWomenSpeak are going to be in Morpeth tomorrow, 13/10/24 between 13:00 and 15:00, at the Emily statue. Sadly, I can’t attend this one. There’s never been a better time to visit!

We were also really pleased to meet one of the Darlington Nurses, who attended but did not speak.

I will do a list of speakers and topics with links to video time-stamps and post again - unless anyone else gets to that before me?

We recruited more women to LWS and Party of Women (POW) and it was lovely meeting some existing members who we had only met online until Sunday.

It was mostly local women who attended but we also had out of town visitors from Brighton, Scotland and, amongst the small band of men who attended, Kent!

This was the first LWS Event organised using a new system set up by LWS. The organising team learned a lot in a short time and we are looking forward to organising more LWS Locals events in the North East 💚🤍💜

looked like (from what I saw on X) that the TRA's added up to three men and a dog. could the tide be turning?

lcakethereforeIam · 15/10/2024 14:35

I've learned a bit about Morpeth, specifically the statue and I was worried that the black pampers would be parked there to intimidate any women trying to approach it. Like they did with the Pankhurst statue in Manchester.

Thank you for your updates OP.

If I'm ever in Morpeth I'll definitely visit the park.

DerekFaker · 15/10/2024 17:41

Sounds like a great day. Thanks for the thread, OP.

MorpethNewsTV - video on Facebook.

A retired Newspaper Editor was so impressed with Stella's speech about Emily Wilding Davison that he recorded and posted it in full ❤

Women speak out at Morpeth rally - video

WOMEN were invited to speak out about subjects close to their heart at Morpeth today.

Many travelled from different parts of the country for the event, held next to the Carlisle Park statue of Suffragette Emily Wilding Davison.

The rally was organised by global campaign group Let Women Speak.

Speakers were heckled by a group of banner waving trans activists and there was a large police presence for the two-hour event.

It was my first time attending a LWS event. I've watched so many online and after being too afraid to attend the one in Newcastle a couple of years ago I was determined to go to this one.
I am so pleased I did. What an absolute bunch of legends and wonderful atmosphere. I also got to meet KJK, who is a wonderful speaker.
Many thanks to the local LWS who organised the event and I'm looking forward to many more.
Thank you, OP, for giving a good, comprehensive update of the day.

More press coverage - this time in North East Bylines - plus a new ebook and a shout out to Mumsnet!

If you are familiar with the Bylines Network you will know that it might as well be called Bylines Netwoke. So the first article, by North East Bylines Editor, Yvonne Wancke (yes, really!) was a load of tosh. A head-count from photos gives an estimate of around or over 120 women at LWS Morpeth (the "demonstration") and a maximum of 16 aggressive hecklers (the "fairly large counter-demonstration"):

Does ‘Let Women Speak’ speak for all women?
'Let Women Speak' rally in Morpeth last weekend

Last weekend saw a rally organised by the group ‘Let Women Speak’ in Carlisle Park, Morpeth. Driving past you could see a number of mainly women wearing what looked like the suffragette colours of green, purple, and white. You could also note a fairly large counter-demonstration. What was this all about? What was the demonstration and what was the counter-demo?

https://northeastbylines.co.uk/news/politics/does-let-women-speak-speak-for-all-women/

We were all pretty disgusted with this coverage, as evidenced by the response on X:

https://x.com/NEBylines/status/1848033208060797275

One of the local speakers, Rebecca Stanton, wrote an Op Ed in response which, to our great surprise, was accepted by Yvonne Wancke with minimal editing:

Why do we still need to let women speak?
A response to the recent Let Women Speak rally in Morpeth from a women's rights activist

Emily Davison, the brave suffragette who met an untimely death in her ongoing fight for women’s rights, is touchingly celebrated in her final resting place of Morpeth, Northumberland. Davison died four days after being trampled by the king’s horse at Epsom Derby in 1913, a moment would become a significant image in the history of women’s rights, especially the right to vote. Today, you can find the life size steel Davison statue in Carlisle Park, where she’s surrounded by the tranquility that she perhaps never reached in life.

Rebecca has also just had an ebook published on 25 Oct!

Dinosaur Soup
By Becks Rose - £1.99 on LuLu

Dinosaur Soup follows a group of ordinary women as they navigate the ongoing clashes between women’s rights and gender ideology.

It’s July 2022, and there’s a lively event in the centre of Newcastle, UK. Mrs Click, a controversial academic and women’s rights campaigner, is hosting an outdoor talk after being de-platformed by a local university. Supporting her are hundreds of local women who, like Mrs Click, believe that transwomen are men. There is also a large counter-protest of those who believe that transwomen are women. The next morning, Mrs Click is found murdered in her hotel room by her husband Oliver.

Mrs Click’s death, and the lead-up to it, brings together a group of local gender-critical women in Newcastle. They name themselves “Dinosaur Soup”. Whilst their backgrounds, demographics, and life experiences differ, their passion for women’s rights unites them, and indeed many other groups of women across the UK. However, their relations suffer and sever when a police murder investigation puts an unwanted spotlight onto their once-private group.

It is going to backfire on them given how many people were annoyed with the original article by Yvonne Wancke.

northeastbylines.co.uk/complaints/

Probably a better chance of complaining to the Compliance Office since the complaint is about Yvonne:

"Complaints should be submitted in writing by email to the editor-in-chief Yvonne Wanke at [email protected], or to the compliance officer by email at [email protected], or to the Bylines Networks Limited address at: 12 Victoria road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S70 2BB.”

Had such problems archiving pages recently that I printed it to PDF. I should have used Ghostarchive as that seems to be OK.

I have also printed and archived the original article by Yvonne Wancke in case they decide to pull that one before there can be complaints about it:
