Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Good article it's just sad that young women today have to sadly be exposed to these experiences to realise the importance of single sex spaces away from men. I remember another thread ages ago where a poster said her DD had scolded her for not "being kind" about the DD's university policy of neutral toilets and everyone being allowed to self identify into whatever toilet they wanted to be in until the DD then experienced a male in there and felt threatened.

I was nearly raped in a (female) toilet. The only reason I managed to escape was because another woman had seen the waiter follow me in (I was drunk and stumbling to the toilet) and banged on the door and scared him. He'd already managed to push me into a cubicle and pin me to the wall. I was 18. If it had been a neutral toilet nobody would have done anything or thought wait a minute, a man shouldn't be in there. I was still a virgin at that point. It still traumatises me. And I was lucky. Fuck being kind anymore women and girls are being harmed.

Well done that woman!

And this really sheds the light on the old ‘you are all dinosaurs and will die out’ posts. Nah! The young women are not happy about it either and are speaking up.

There has been another bio-trans girl on onlyfans reported too. Not that I support onlyfans, but the young women are fighting back.

Good for her. It's horrible that we have to, or may have to, suffer this. I've once come across a teenage boy in a Ladies' toilet and he claimed "maybe I identify as a girl" when I questioned him, which told me he was just trying it on. But I applaud her.
If I ran a business I think I'd call the toilets "only for those with a v" and "if you can use a urinal".

The consequence of mixed sex spaces is that cubicles get made private and enclosed but then have to have a safety mechanism to be openable outwardly from the outside easily (so a body doesn’t stop a door being open). Making cubicles private makes the problem worse. Men can hide, easily access the cubicle a woman/girl is in, and carry out an attack without witnesses.

It also means that they are worse for anyone who collapses inside a cubicle as no one will know they are in the cubicle. In nightclubs the risk of collapse through spiking and choking on vomit is increased - when people feel ill they head to the toilet.

They need to keep the floor to door gaps for everyone’s safety.

Bravo Connie Shaw - willing to take it on, then willing to talk to the media. Add her name to the (increasing) list of Women who won’t Wheesht

Well done to the young women for being brave enough to stand up to this. I hope it doesn't mean that she'll now be targeted for bullying by other students. And also well done to the security, for not shrugging.

My DD had a similar brisk conversion to stealth-TERF in the first few weeks of uni, though that was with a male student in the female loos (I do sometimes wonder if I post on MN in my sleep, so maybe that was me).

Feel so sorry for the women concerned, and so pleased they not only spoke up and challenged but got it in the media.

And whilst i know many woman who are campaigners work really hard, a story like this so clearly illustrating the impact of accepting "indentifying" is not just complete nonsense, but impacts on women leading an ordinary life.

In a hotel where pool changing room and other toilets had She/They on the door. I expressed my worries about this and was told it was for the LGBT people. We said as L people we do not consent to this as it will mean danger for women..etc. after we swam we were in the shower room , locked the door ,unclothed but could not get into the toilet, A man then came out, was embarrassed and apologised, but we were actually locked in with him. He actually said he thought the They on the door meant he could use it. This was 15 minutes after we had complained. Another complaint to the manager who realised the problem and we said he should take the signs down or warn women of what they might expect. We said they should review their training using this as an example of what can happen when women are not listened to or taken seriously. They should also check with their female staff about what they think. Wrote a full review on booking.com and would be checking the hotel website regularly.

I saw her thread on TwiX quite early - the TRAs were in there right away with claims the picture was from the dance floor or if it was from a loo she’d barged into the men’s 🤦‍♀️ Literally anything other than admit the possibility of bad actors taking advantage.

WarriorN · 28/09/2024 07:41

Fantastic woman!

Surely they couldn't claim she'd "barged into the men's". By their criteria, there wouldn't be a "men's", or if there was, she'd be allowed in!

She reported the incident to West Yorkshire Police but the force told it was not a crime and it was 'down to the establishment to deal with'

Good old West Yorkshire Police. They never change, do they?
