KJK at Sheffield - another soup attack

Imnobody4 · 21/09/2024 18:17

This man threw tomato juice, or soup, on Kellie-Jay Keen @ThePosieParker in Sheffield today 21.9.24

It could have been something more harmful.

Vulnerable transwoman?
Or abusive man taking a chance to terrify women?
Who knows?
Just as with every man who says he's a woman.

Some excellent posts on this page. Demonstrating so well that believing in women's rights and equalities is a broad church, and women wanting rights are a diverse group who don't always agree and don't have to. They're not a political party, they're not a lobbygroup, they don't share in all beliefs and messages, and weirdly they don't immediately threaten to rape/kill/throw liquids/kettle and scream at each other in balaclavas when they have different viewpoints around their central goal of not letting women's rights be commandeered and broken up for parts by men.

The Women's Place statement was used in a court in Australia this week to try and demonise a female MP. So it is particularly relevant at the moment.

Pretending that it didn't happen isn't enough, as it puts women at risk because it is used to infer that the women are fascists. And nobody likes a fascist.

We cannot pretend it didn't happen. Jean might have decided to backtrack but her original denouncement has repercussions that some women still have actual scars from.

She was also a signatory of that criminally stupid GC anti-far right letter in August. She asked for her signature to be removed but the fact she was willing to sign it only a few short weeks ago would suggest that whatever is going on it's very recent.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/09/2024 22:14

A GC anti-far right letter? What was it about? Surely GC people are anti far right?

GC is not a right wing position.Confused

Helleofabore · 22/09/2024 22:41

Iirc Jean had withdrawn her signature from the letter after seeing the way signing va not signing became significant issues. I think what she was brave.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/09/2024 18:19

I wonder if the same swift justice will be applied as was to the rioters.

No, because the laws regarding widespread civil violence differ from those against individuals.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/09/2024 23:30

Thanks for the link @timenowplease.Thanks

I'm not surprised feminists, and GC feminists in particular, are wary of those on the "far right" who try to ride on their tails.

What was KJK's involvement? Did she sign their petition and then redact?

No, the petition is about KJK.

We, the undersigned, are deeply disturbed that populist messages particularly targeting Muslims have gained traction among significant numbers of social media accounts associated with the gender critical movement, and that one major account in particular has actively fanned the flames of racist violence with increasingly inflammatory video messages.

It's interesting now reading that again.

I was told repeatedly last night that no woman is responsible for men's violence.

Seems all the good left-wing GC peeps who draughted and signed that letter feel differently. 🤔

timenowplease · 22/09/2024 23:43

Maybe actively fanning flames is bad, but inventing false narratives and repeating them ad nauseam is alrighty then.

and hopefully help to make the campus that little bit more tolerant and friendly for everyone.
I would be scared if I was a young girl at his uni. He wasn't friendly at all.

Hopefully the uni kicks him out for bringing it into disrepute.

EDIT - he's a recent graduate at 34!!?? What the hell has he been doing all this time?

Edited

I'm not sure why you called his age into question, as you can condemn his action without shaming the fact that he is a recent graduate at 34. Whether he obtained his bachelor's degree at 24 or 34 is not relevant here, unless there is information that suggests otherwise. People start their degrees or go back to school at various stages in their lives for a lot of valid reasons.

He apparently received his bachelor's degree in 2014, so if he is 34 as the Daily Mail article suggests he would have been around 24 back then. The article actually does not mention whether he is a recent graduate.

Actively fanning the flames?

Or rightly putting distance between the GC feminist movement and the racists who are riding on their coattails? Of course, I would expect left wing GC peeps to do that. Why would they want to align themselves with racist, anti-muslim sentiment. These things are detrimental to feminism and womens rights.

Bolduser12 · 23/09/2024 05:22

TinselAngel · 22/09/2024 10:25

There was a security guard but the soup was thrown from a distance.

Looking at the photo posted upthread it looks as though he was stood right next to her.

DirtyDuchess · 23/09/2024 08:24

She did have a security man who didn't leave her side but the Ginger fecker managed to saunter up and pour soup directly onto her head. As you can see from some of the pictures, the women surrounding her wasn't aware it was going on at that moment in time.

eatfigs · 23/09/2024 08:49

Are we sure that the "major account" mentioned was KJK? There are other popular accounts that claim to be GC who are or were doing this.

Like the "Hazel Appleyard" account, I unfollowed because the rhetoric was getting increasingly far-right and the whole account was just ragebait. KJK's tweets on the topic were mild in comparison.

I don't want to rehash the letter thing but just to be clear, the letter is condemning KJK. JCJ said specifically the letter is about Kellie.

Yes, JCJ specifically said it was about Kellie.

As I just said in another post, I don't want to rehash this. There's a whole 1000 post thread linked above if you can stomach it.

Thanks I'd missed that detail.

My apologies for bad grammar, the women surrounding her weren't aware......

Floisme · 23/09/2024 09:09

Only just read that Jean Hatchet was there. The last time I saw Jean's Twitter it was clear that relations between her and certain left wing feminists were pretty strained and this will have fractured them beyond repair. So that arm linking looks pretty significant to me, however awkward, and I'm pleased to hear about it, even if Jean and KJK never speak again.

JoodyBlueToo · 23/09/2024 09:42

I like that Jean said in her speech "join whatever groups you like, I will say what i like when I like" paraphrasing massively there. Seems to me the issues of freedom of speech and respect for women's freedom do and should cross the political spectrum. It is the grown up approach. I hope there is more respect for this commonality and less divisive concentration on difference to come. Someone asked me the other day if I had a local group - I said I don't like the in-fighting, so no I'd rather be my own person. But if we could coalesce around this issue we'd be a force to be reckoned with.

TinselAngel · 23/09/2024 10:02

I was chatting at the time and not looking so I could very well be wrong then.

She has said on Twitter how she normally has two security guards but she cut down to one because they cost £1k each.

DirtyDuchess · 23/09/2024 11:44

Our views aren't always aligned but she's one hell of a brave lady and deserves support. I was fairly disappointed by the numbers that turned up tbh.
