Hands up who else identifies as a middle aged cat?

Fit enough for most stuff, but just can't be arsed with most of it.

ReadWithScepticism · 19/09/2024 07:08

TBH, I think this is probably daily mail mischief making. I don't doubt that some daft terminology has been used by professionals responding to this child, but it still could be the case that they are just trying to deal in a reasonably sensitive way with a child that has behavioural problems.

DustyLee123 · 19/09/2024 07:10

I know for a fact that a secondary school near me has a litter tray for a pupil who identifies as a cat. I wouldn’t want to clean that kitty litter out.

ReadWithScepticism · 19/09/2024 07:10

Also, what a gorgeous picture. Who wouldn't want to be a wolf given that humanity is so fucked up right now.

Really
At what point do we say enough is enough and tell a child to stop being ridiculous.
I really don't care what excuses is being used to facilitate this nonsense it needs to be shut down immediately and noone should ever be going along with it

Perhaps you are right, I just don't know because I have zero confidence that the mail isn't sensationalising.
But it could be a child with a whole range of problems that manifest in a combination of behavioural difficulties, and the staff could simply be trying to find a way through these, picking their battles, etc.
Or the staff could be absolute idiots who are pandering to a weird hypertrophic manifestation of identarianism. We just don't know because the daily mail is such a crap source, so it doesn't seem worth getting concerned about the allegations.

You don't deal with behavioural issues by pandering to such nonsense, there's no valid reason to ever go along with this crap or make other pupils or staff go along with it. I'm all for picking your battles buy this crap is a non starter and needs to be shut down immediately and the child told to stop the bs (in an age appropriate way) noone should be going along with any of it

It's such nonsense. More than 50 years ago I was in school with a girl who identified as a pony who trotted and whinnied through breaktimes, occasionally condescending to eat an apple presented on a friend's hand. She reverted to human when back in the classroom, and by 13 was pretty much over it.

See (listen to) also Hadley Freeman's description of her child, the flamingo, in this interview.

I think I need an automated FFS 🤦‍♀️ response to deal with the Scottish government and identity politics.

Me(w)! Me(w)!

Though I suspect my actual middle-aged cats would be extremely unimpressed by the staff getting uppity ...

Edited

In primary school we often 'played horses'. The first part of the game was to describe yourself - I was a palomino pony.

DeanElderberry · 19/09/2024 20:07

If only they'd had appropriate drugs and surgery, even now you could be galloping across the plains.

My friend and I always played horses. We were brumbies - huge fans of the Silver Brumby books, then. There was never the slightest thought in our minds that it was anything other than a game. There was no "identifying as" bullshit.

But surely he is a werewolf? Nothing trans about that! 😂

MrsWhattery · 20/09/2024 00:13

If "species dysphoria" is officially a thing, surely all it does is highlight that you can't change sex just as you can't change species. Surely no one thinks you can change species by saying so or by having "affirming" surgery?

The girl I knew who was a pony played at break with her friends who were pretending to be ponies. They all did the same thing but she never switched it off. Except when sitting in a classroom desk.

Maybe there was something else wrong - someone on another board remembered a girl they were at school with who had a profound small animal identification - she later turned out to have been subject to sex abuse that her family and doctor thought she should 'get over'.

Abused, ND, unhappy about bodily changes, unhappy about family or household dynamic. Surely schools should be providing an alternative way to live and focus rather than reinforcing understandable but deranged self harm and bodily denial. See also anorexia, gender change, cutting. Again I recommend that Freeman interview, very good insights from someone who has gone through and survived an adolescent crazy phase.
