I have never watched Jackass, and don’t find Steve-O’s “humour” funny in the slightest.

He was planning to get DD breast implants to prank people with, then have them removed. He has changed his mind after seeking the opinion of a transgender person.

They then had a wider discussion about the persecution transgender people currently face in the US. Steve-O said the person he spoke to “described how they weren’t allowed to use the bathroom at their place of work, that there were like maybe 28 states in the country that would arrest them for having an ID that said female on it. That there were politicians making concerted efforts to lock them up in internment camps. It was really pretty heartbreaking, the level of oppression that was described.”

If that is verified, that would certainly be a lamentable scale of oppression that begins to approach the oppression of women in Afghanistan.

NB: "If" is doing a lot of lifting here. And, yet again, it highlights that men like Steve-O regard this as a game of meat Lego rather than anything with meaningful impact for them.

i very much doubt that they are not allowed to use the bathroom - what they mean is they can’t use bathrooms for the opposite sex

I don’t see how Donald Trump saying immigrants are eating pets gets broad laughter and mockery everywhere, and claims like this not only go unchecked but provoke great guilt/talk of privilege/hand-wringing. Why can Americans dismiss some nonsense as nonsense, but not other stuff? Oh yeah, because the good guys are saying it. Smh.

Whenever I read this kind of thing, I try not to think about the fact that America is the 'leader of the free world'. It's like having an overtired 4 year old in charge of a sweet shop. The 'Right' and the 'Left' are both as utterly barking mad as each other.

A fellow terfy friend sent me this article and it reminded us of Will Ferrell, who has a Netflix show coming out about his 50-something male friend who decided he's a woman (I guess now that he's already been a head writer at SNL) and who has declared that he will no longer dress in drag for jokes (you may recall him dressing as Janet Reno on SNL a million years ago).

I have watched Jackass and his lack of mental capacity is striking (whatever the polite/PC term is). It's actually uncomfortable because you don't get the impression he can consent to the stunts even though he's an adult.

Trump's comment was said by a Presidential candidate of a major party in a televised national debate; everything said in that context is almost immediately fact-checked. In contrast, I had to look up "Steve-O" and "Jackass" as I've never heard of either. It sounds like he's one of those '90s "shock jock" misogynists like Andrew Dice Clay. I know some older gentlemen in the US who are still into this stuff, but it's hardly mainstream.

The idea of a secret government plan to force (insert demographic here) in internment camps IS a popular trope in the USA. It's usually considered a right wing conspiracy theory, although there have been left-wing versions of it when Republicans were in power. It's likely persistent and persuasive because it plays on actual historical events such as (1) the internment of enemy aliens, including in camps during the Second World War and (2) Readiness Exercise 1984 Bravo (Rex84), a secret plan during the Reagan administration which laid plans for the military to detain civilians in camps for the sake of national security. (This plan was never implemented, but was later declassified and understandably caused an uproar.)

Anyway, I've not heard the internment camp trope related to transgender people specifically (and nothing comes up for me on Google), but it's definitely been out there about LGBT+ people in general. Other rumored targets have been political opponents of the party in power, HIV+ people/AIDS patients, anyone infected or suspected of being infected with or having ben exposed to various communicable diseases, suspected terrorists, the unvaccinated (during COVID), protesters against mandated vax and/or lockdown (also COVID) and most recently undocumented aliens. The undocumented aliens one did receive more attention because Trump was asked if he'd consider such a policy. (He said it might be within the Federal government's power but there was no need for it as the the power to deport undocumented aliens already exists but is not implemented due to inefficiency and lack of political will.)

Any prank needing implants rather than prosthetics or a stuffed bra would seem to involve an intimate encounter. This is either a fiction to make a political point or something darker. Whatever it is, this is dodgy stuff.

Sounds like a typical piece of projection. What's the bet this TIP is one of the Reddit men who salivates over the idea of such camps for disobedient women? Their forums are full of such fantasies.

I doubt that any state would arrest them for having an ID that said female. First, almost all states allow you to change the gender marker on your driver's license.

AFAIK none of those states make it illegal to use another state's valid ID, even if your gender marker has been changed. That would pose serious constitutional challenges under the Full Faith and Credit clause of the US Constitution as well as the Equal Protection Clause

Article IV, Section 1: Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State.
