How many people in the Democratic Republic of Congo have a Tesla? Or in Tajikistan? Etc etc.

This is a very privileged, tech heavy view of life.

yes you're right. Until 100% of people in the world all have a Tesla, the man is a failure and should hang his head in shame.

CassieMaddox · 10/09/2024 14:29

"Cheaper flights to space is objectively good"

What's your definition of "good"?

I'd argue the scarce natural resources required to build and power a rocket, and the unproven benefits of going to space and the associated pollution/risks means "cheaper flights to space is bad".

You don't make something "objectively good" just by using the words. You need to define and qualify it.

No need to be sarky! I'm just saying you might want to broaden your world view a bit before making hyperbolic claims about Tesla "taking over the world"

SerendipityJane · 10/09/2024 14:55

Tesla built out an incredibly high speed charging network, for free, across the whole planet.

Did they ? When ? (Looks out of window) where's mine ?

Tesla are not and never will "take over the world".

What Tesla did do was change the car industry, permanently, for the better, over the space of about 6 years. Which is revolutionary in anyones book, world changing when it comes to getting rid of internal combustion engines.

I find the treatment of Elon Musk by the media very interesting. My left wing, supposedly’good man’ father wants Twitter banned in the U.K. because Elon has supported Trump. I don’t like Trump but I wouldn’t want a social media site banned because its owner supported a candidate I don’t like.

There is definitely a concerted effort to paint Elon Musk as a bad guy. He posted ‘interesting observation’, he may be a twat, he may not. I agreed with the part about women conforming, there is a real risk of violence for non conformity, for not being men-pleasers. It’s why we capitulate and de-escalate when men turn aggressive. I don’t necessarily agree with the conclusion of the post Elon commented on, though I think there is some merit in thinking that weak men are more dangerous to women than men who are secure in themselves.

I think Twitter has improved since he bought it, though I only follow musicians and gc feminists so may avoid the worst.

I still can't see mine outside. Which is odd considering a previous poster told me they are "across the whole planet" and "free". Which means I can use my eyes to see them, not a link to some virtual site somewhere ...

Well. They are across the whole world. And they are free. (Pre 2017 cars). Quite why you think you have a gotcha here I don’t know.

tesla forced the car industry forward by 25-30 years, in the space of 5 years. Fact.

Free electricity ? No one told me.

Free electricity ? No one told me.

People have not told you loads of things. They’re still true.

all pre 2017 Teslas charge for free, for ever, unlimited times in the large, very high speed, high reliability worldwide network they built.

that’s why they changed the car industry permanently and for the better.

Lol at the incredible short sightedness and tiny horizons some people have. If you can't see past the nearest Asda, I feel sorry for you.

Just came here to say 'yes'.

Not because of his opinions - that's up to him. But because of his behaviour, particularly the way he treated Twitter employees and others. A massive twat, and a bell-end too.

Maybe it’s my low- t that blinds me to the benefits of colonising mars. Sad to be a woman ☹️

At this point i'm half expecting it to be Elon himself

JennyBeanR · 10/09/2024 16:35

He's definitely not stupid. I find it odd that people think just because you disagree with someone, then that person is also stupid.

Saying that, I really do think he's gone down some kind of extremist rabbit hole. His messages/interviews seem to be getting worse every day.

As an expanding species which won't stop until nature steps in, it's rather in our interests to move off earth.

That said, I don't think his Muskness is the man to do it. While you are waiting for your Tesla to charge, you will have plenty of time to start writing down the reasons why.

I grew up in the 70s, when nuclear fusion was "just 10 years away". Much as it is now.

If you wanted to colonise other bodies in our solar system (because that is all you have so even then your resources whilst considerable are still finite) you really have to start with living on the moon. Not popping up for a month or two and then popping back when you can.

Living

And given the first settlers to the Americas - which at least has air, water, food and shelter - managed to perish a few times before finally establishing a foothold, I wouldn't hold my breath.

How would giving birth and growing up in 1/6th g work ? Bearing in mind anyone born on the moon (or Mars) probably could never come to earth. Mind you, who'd want to ?

You can be a Nobel prize winner and a twat. The two are not mutually exclusive. same as enormous wealth and incredible generosity.

Maybe I misread this
,Weird how building out the infrastructure for electric cars, at staggering charging rates (still generally unbeaten by anyone else), and FOR FREE is EXACTLY how Tesla took over and changed the world. Confused
