Scottish Government tried to block FOI re funding for LGBT Youth Scotland, Equality Network, Engender and Elect Her

The funding applications submitted by four organisations that are funded primarily by the Scottish Government – LGBT Youth Scotland, Equality Network, Engender and Elect Her – were requested via a Freedom of Information request to the Scottish Government.

The FOI was initially refused on the grounds that releasing the information may deter the organisations from making future applications for funding or impact on their commercial activities. This decision was upheld by a review, and it took the involvement of the Scottish Information Commissioner before the Government agreed to release the documents. We don’t think it should be this hard to see where taxpayers’ money is being spent!

The Scottish Government normally publishes FOI responses on its website but since it has chosen not to do so on this occasion, we are publishing the documents here.

It's almost as if Scots Gov is apprehensive about public scrutiny to the point where they're prepared to forego the importance of transparency and accountability.

But, I must be wrong. No elected official can have strayed that far from Nolan principles or the notion of democracy…

But ... we all know that when any of us are dealing with a very special group of persons, they are so important and vulnerable, no demands of normal behaviour should be made of them. That would just a phobic.

Aren't we being schooled on this every day?

How very surprising 😮 🙄.

Not directly relating to OP but yet more Scottish focus on GI.

Online legal training is being offered that will include:

... insight into modern family creation and how gender recognition impacts family law

The short link before I went to web site didn't sound too bad, ie gender recognition and family law, but seeing it spelt out as being part of "modern family creation" takes it to a whole other level.

Family Law Conference: Children and Families 2024

Join us in Sep 2024 for our Family law conference, where we will explore the latest legislative developments and most pressing issues in family law practice.
