Crossing out 'gender' and writing 'sex' on child's health form

Had a letter today from our local public health authority about immunisations for my child. In the details section it asked for 'Gender- M or F'. In a small act of rebellion, I crossed out 'gender' and wrote 'sex' above it.

I hate it when public bodies can't even get the distinction between sex and gender. Surely accurate recording of that is important?

Anyway, I am sure someone will read the form and roll their eyes and my card is marked, but it made me feel better.

I do this on every form I fill in.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 05/09/2024 22:09

Yep same here. Although my LA now asks for sex on the child flu vaccine.form so I imagine I'm not the only one.

ArmchairOlympian · 05/09/2024 22:10

🙄🙄

arethereanyleftatall · 05/09/2024 22:11

I do it every time I can. Get blooming infuriated with an online form where I don't have the option, but will pop some words in the other cell if possible.

🙄🙄

ArmchairOlympian I'm responding to the emojis which would indicate lack of understanding. Health organisations must ask for a child or adult's biological sex to ensure accurate and appropriate medical treatment, vaccinations or screening. Recording a feeling or identity, which is what 'gender' is, is dangerous in these situations.

ArabellaScott · 05/09/2024 22:19

Yes, I do this when it's possible to do so. In fact, thanks, just did it for the flu vaccine form, which states my child's 'gender' when I don't think anyone has ever asked.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 05/09/2024 22:20

I do this, also on the library's summer reading challenge form 🤷‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

MouseofCommons · 05/09/2024 22:22

Yes. I do this too.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 05/09/2024 22:27

I do this on forms too, a small act of resistance. Although I'm currently trying to navigate mental health support for my autistic DD and am aghast how awash the whole system seems to be with gender ideology.

Catsmere · 05/09/2024 22:28

I did that on a form for volunteering recently. It also asked about "preferred pronouns" and I wrote "the ones appropriate to my sex". Funnily enough I never heard back from them, which suited me because an organisation so obnoxiously woke isn't one I want to work for. I hate churches that have gone for the gender ideology cult.

clarrylove · 05/09/2024 22:29

Yup. Every time.

Skyellaskerry · 06/09/2024 00:36

I do this whenever I can too.

Userxyd · 06/09/2024 05:35

😊👍 Good point, I'll do this too. No point collecting data if they're not going to be accurate about it.

MinnieMountain · 06/09/2024 05:43

I did that on a Bikeability course consent form yesterday. Then didn’t answer the question.

Mumof2namechange · 06/09/2024 05:52

Gender used to mean sex, before this crazy new movement happened.

Mumof2namechange · 06/09/2024 05:54

What I mean is, insisting they mean something different is somewhat conceding that there's legitimacy in the new concept of "gender".

Catsmere · 06/09/2024 07:33

It used to be adopted as a euphemism for sex, when "sex" was too often taken to mean sexual intercourse, and people would either be embarrassed or sniggering about it. Now, unfortunately, it's taken to mean some Inner Feelz that one is really the opposite sex, and that those Inner Feelz should override reality (not to mention trample on women's rights).

I see your point. But the NHS uses gender to mean amorphous inner essence, not biological sex. Which is dangerous.

Cailin66 · 06/09/2024 07:39

I change every form. And for online ones, I put in a complaint if there is a comment box.

kiterunning · 06/09/2024 07:40

Same!

DappledThings · 06/09/2024 07:40

I did this on both DC's contact update forms for school

hannahwaddinghamsbiceps · 06/09/2024 07:48

If the only option is gender, I always tick other, then write 'my sex is female' in the self description box. Been doing this on all forms for ages

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2024 07:55

Small acts of quiet resistance matter. Thanks to everyone who does this as a form of protest.

cheezncrackers · 06/09/2024 07:56

Oh I'm so pleased other people do this too Grin

MouseofCommons · 06/09/2024 07:59

cail yes, complaint in the comments box here too.
