Crossing out 'gender' and writing 'sex' on child's health form

FeelingSad2024 · 05/09/2024 22:04

Had a letter today from our local public health authority about immunisations for my child. In the details section it asked for 'Gender- M or F'. In a small act of rebellion, I crossed out 'gender' and wrote 'sex' above it.

I hate it when public bodies can't even get the distinction between sex and gender. Surely accurate recording of that is important?

Anyway, I am sure someone will read the form and roll their eyes and my card is marked, but it made me feel better.

I did that on a form for volunteering recently. It also asked about "preferred pronouns" and I wrote "the ones appropriate to my sex". Funnily enough I never heard back from them, which suited me because an organisation so obnoxiously woke isn't one I want to work for. I hate churches that have gone for the gender ideology cult.

Yet you still applied 🤷‍♀️

Sure. I'd argue that the consequences of that are slight, overall, though. Whereas the NHS recording people's 'gender' instead of their sex is potentially very grave.

But if mothers start off talking about their unborn baby's gender, are they going to change to sex when it really matters?

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2024 12:17

I don't know - I suspect that in many cases as their pregnancies become babies and the babies become toddlers and they start to encounter all this crap they may realise the difference between the words.

greenleaveseverywhere · 06/09/2024 12:32

I don't really care which they use as there's only 2 options for each. Male or female, end of.

Because there was nothing to indicate beforehand that they'd trot out this bullshit, smartie. It was working in an op shop, ffs.

Yes, but the problem is that if people are using 'gender' then this might mean they class some males as female. It renders the whole question totally pointless.

Screamingabdabz · 06/09/2024 15:49

I don’t, because I don’t believe in gender can mean anything other than sex. To accept that gender means some kind of social construction is, in my mind, giving in to crackpot gender ideology.

Agree totally.

Male. Female.
Boy. Girl.
He. She.
Penis. Vagina.
His. Hers.

Wear what you want, shag who you want, do what you want. But the above can never be changed.

Why?

its scoring out a word on a form
and writing in a 3 letter word in its place. Hardly exhausting

I would have thought reading the questions on the application before you sent it would have given you a clue?

my point exactly.. when it comes to your children, will the world end if you tick a box saying male or female? they are children... its a form! i doubt who ever sent you it, sees your act of defiance and thinks... well thats it! we must change the wording on our forms now!

there are way more important issues in the world to deal with than a simple tick box on a childs form

Why do you care what we do, then?

why can i not comment? why can i not be interested in why you do it?

The thing that always makes me laugh the most is when I'm filling in something to do with my cats and it asks for their gender instead of their sex.

😁 I do hope you’ve asked them. It would be terrible if the vet misgendered them.

Ffs, what do you think I did? They give you the form after you apply by phone. You get the form to fill in the details then. They don't tell you beforehand that this shit is there. I wasn't going to not fill the thing in and have them ringing to ask why not. Easier to correct the nonsense and see if it made a difference. Given how captured too many Australian institutions and corporations (not to mention governments) are, it's a test worth doing.

Official documents e.g. passport and birth certificate state 'Sex' I don't know why every other document shouldn't say the same - I'd have thought medical records are as important as ID documents.

I agree, and yet the State will change this useful information on official documentation if someone has gender-feelz and wants to pretend to be the opposite sex 🤷‍♀️

Well I think the societal capitulation to gender nonsense is a big issue, and in any event just because bigger stuff is going on, in what way does that mean we can’t still be bothered about “smaller” stuff?

Being quiet and not speaking up against this rubbish is why we have ended up in the mess we have with gender ideology

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2024 17:56

I started a thread on sex differences in asthma yesterday and one on knee/joint pain today. Our sex affects so many aspects of our life. Yes it matters whether people are referring to biological sex or some nebulous theoretical idea.

I think you filled in the application despite the organisation being captured by the alphabet rainbow crew. No? It was all in there on my original post.

scalt · 06/09/2024 18:14

Perhaps the word “gender” on forms became commonplace when people like Adrian Mole answered the question “sex” with “not yet”.
