Women in Kolkata take to the streets

Following the dreadful rape and murder of a woman doctor at work, there are protests most days and tear gas and water cannons are being used by the authorities . It is becoming clear that more than one male was involved and that the doctor concerned was essentially whistle blowing about corruption by the administration. This does not seem to have been covered by the press here. Again, though, the actual problem of male violence is sometimes given a lesser importance than the politicking from all sides. But women are on the streets despite increased risk to them. Indian feminists are fighting back in place that was believed to be more forward looking in terms of women’s rights and safety.
solidarity to all the brave sisters there.

Solidarity and great admiration. Is there a charity or women’s group we can support?

Interesting that the murdered doctor was whistle blowing about corruption by the administration. Sounds as if her death was suspiciously convenient for someone.
