Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

  • A breakdown of total funding allocations from the Scottish Government to support female domestic violence/abuse victims from 2019 to the present, broken down by year and by organisation.
  • A list of permanent funding schemes available exclusively for female domestic abuse victims in Scotland.

More at https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-202400406100/

If you want to go straight to the list of groups and amount of money granted go to https://www.gov.scot/binaries/content/documents/govscot/publications/foi-eir-release/2024/07/foi-202400406100/documents/foi-202400406100---information-released---annex-a-and-b/foi-202400406100---information-released---annex-a-and-b/govscot%3Adocument/FOI%2B202400406100%2B-%2BInformation%2BReleased%2B-%2BAnnex%2BA%2Band%2BB.pdf (link looks a bit strange if it doesn't work on page loaded by link above)

Cant help wondering who put in the FOI request!

Thanks that's interesting. I see LGBTYS is on the list as well. The thread I started about them is gaining traction as Janice Turner from the Times wrote about them today as well. I wonder what the definition of the funding was and how it was allocated? The FOI is for female domestic abuse / violence victims.

BetsyM00 · 31/08/2024 11:05

Yes, LGBTYS were awarded some of women's funding from the Equally Safe Fund - their application and other docs for it are here:

As I said in OP I wonder who asked for this and also whether this part of the request was actually to find out how much public money went to groups that run services by and for biological women only.

I don't think there is any info on this.

I suspect that if there was a similar request for funding to DV for women in England we would find that most of it goes to Housing Associations who are notoriously bad at runing refuges properly and to generic homelessness projects.

Unfortunately this was something first started under Blair who seemed to be under the impression that women weren't able to run support services effectively. And since then had grown into a useful stream of money for what are effectively businesses to virtue signal that they are "working with the community".

Sad

Well someone's been busy - here's another one!

1. Please provide a list of all grants paid to Glasgow East Women's Aid (GEWA) by the Scottish Government between January 2019 and February 2024. Please provide data for each year separately.
2. Please provide copies of any reports or other documents produced by the Board of Directors of GEWA to explain the permanent closure of the charity on 29 February 2024 and its subsequent liquidation.
3.i) When and how did the Scottish Government become aware of the closure and liquidation?
3.ii) Did the Government receive any complaints about the charity before and after the closure/liquidation?
3.iii) Did the Government take any action to prevent the closure? Please provide the details of the investigations that happened (if any).
4. Please confirm whether an investigation has been launched into GEWA's bankruptcy. If yes, please provide the details.
5. Could you please provide copies of any or all emails and other correspondence between the Scottish Government and GEWA relating to the charity's closure and/or subsequent liquidation?
6. Please provide the specific details of the support offered by the Scottish Government to GEWA employees and beneficiaries of the charity's service in the Greater Easterhouse area after the charity's closure, including any financial, emotional, or practical support.
