Labour Women's Declaration at Lab Conference 2024 - STALL! - Reem Alsalem [UNSRVAW], Sonia Sodha and Dr Anna Hutchison

For years LWD have been fighting to get a stall at conference. Finally they have been allowed inside with a stall at the Labour Annual Conference in Liverpool.

That is not all they now have two events inside the conference, but on the fringe. Remember when the women were banished to an outside venue and TAs hammering on the windows only a few years ago.

LWD Fringe Event – Sunday 22nd September 1.30 – 3pm “Labour Women’s Declaration – where next?” [INSIDE the conference zone]
We have warmly welcomed the government’s clear commitments to protecting single-sex spaces & services, halving violence against women & girls and full implementation of the Cass Review’s recommendations.
What strategies are now needed in order to deliver these 3 commitments?”

Speakers panel includes:
Reem Alsalem, UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences
Sonia Sodha, Chief leader writer, The Observer
Dr Anna Hutchison, Clinical psychologist, specialising in adolescent mental health and physical health with a particular interest in gender related distress in young people. She is part of the team providing induction training to all clinical staff who will be working in the new Children & Young People’s Gender Dysphoria Services in England
https://labourwomensdeclaration.org.uk/lwd-fringe-event-sunday-22nd-september-1-30-3pm-labour-womens-declaration-where-next/

[Amazing lineup which will have the TA faction inside Labour fuming especially as Dr Hutchinson is an actual medical expert.]

Full details on the other event to follow it also sounds great:
Mon 23 Sept 7pm 'Unions for Women'

The battle against sexism within Labour and the Trade Union movement is going up another notch. Open debate it seems is the way forward. It is going to be tough it is certain the TAs are going to use every underhand tactic they have, but more and more people are coming forward to back the reality of biology within the party. However now more than ever there is a chance to fight back and push Labour in the right direction.

How strong the pro-woman faction inside Labour is will be seen at the Labour Women's Conference preceding the main conference. LWD are running two Women’s Conference Arrangements Committee (WCAC) Candidates Dr Louise Irvine and Lynne Troughton to be voted for with the backing of 15 local Constituency parties. Labour party members please lobby to back them. Details here:

That's brilliant. Good to see some daylight shining. It will be interesting to see how the TRAs react - I'm hoping they realise screaming abuse and 'no debate' is over.

ArabellaScott · 26/08/2024 17:52

Well done to those tenacious women.

Labour don't bloody deserve them.

Omlettes · 26/08/2024 17:53

Great news thanks!
Though with that impressive lineup it certainly shouldnt be fringe.
Still, its a goodly step forward.

Omlettes · 26/08/2024 17:58

@ArabellaScott Tenacious is a great word for them.
I'm so impressed by their dogged persistence in the face of insult and threat
and the suggestion that they should just give up and join the Conservatives.

I support all the members in every political party trying to right them from inside.
How else can they resist total capture?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 26/08/2024 18:01

That's an impressive line up of speakers for a 'fringe' event, I wish I could go, I'd like to here what all 3 have to say especially Reem Alsalem 👍, unlike the lot in the main hall, I can't be bother to listen to anything they have to say 👎.

well done those women!. And a powerful line up.

Floisme · 26/08/2024 18:26

Thanks, this is welcome news. How LWD put up with those tossers is beyond me but I applaud them for it.

heathspeedwell · 26/08/2024 18:43

This really is good news. I would like to buy each and every one of the women who have made this happen a large drink!

I'll raise a pint of gin in honour of them.

what else have they got? if your position was so deranged it could not survive even the gentlest contact with reality then "no debate" is the only way to maintain it. if that doesn't work (which it won't because were not going away) then screaming and shouting is all you have left. I look forward to these twats showing up in their provisional IRA dress code outfits and giving the labour delegates an object lesson in exactly what kind of nutters they are dealing with, Bring it on!

LizzieSiddal · 26/08/2024 23:31

Brilliant news! Well done to them for persevering.

That is incredible, @fromorbit.

Well done to the women of LWD for keeping going. I admit I never thought they would ever be listened to, so hats off to them for not being discouraged and finally getting their stall. Which I predict will be the busiest one. And as you say, what fantastic guest speakers for the conference.

Seems that LGBT Labour is on its way out:

Account deleted.

Insta's still up, but no posts since end of May.

LGBT Labour were apparently banned from Norwich Pride.

And it seems LGBT Labour is no more, and is being replaced by 'Pride in Labour':

ArabellaScott · 27/08/2024 16:53

Oh, okay. A 'technical issue' apparently is why the X account is down.

Everyone seems quite tetchy.

'The LGBT+ Labour account is down due to a technical issue. It's frankly disgusting to suggest that I or anyone else on the committee has abandoned the LGBTQ+ community. Stoking division is simply not the way forward.'

ArabellaScott · 27/08/2024 16:54

Sorry, I hope that wasn't a derail, thought it might be pertinent to a Labour-related thread.

Apollo441 · 27/08/2024 17:01

Well it looks like prideinlabour will be more unhinged than LBGTQ+ Labour. They cite a founding reason that LBGTQ+ Labour didn't oppose the ban on puberty blockers with enough fanaticism (ok my word but it's what they meant).

SensibleSigma · 27/08/2024 17:05

Good lord. Well good luck to everyone there, cracking line up. Can’t wait to see how well supported it is, and the swathes of apologies that are owed finally arriving!

SensibleSigma · 27/08/2024 17:06

I mean it’s a triumph for those dedicated, persistent women, but fuck me it shouldn’t be so hard.

Predictably is how they react, with incitement.

Yes LGBT Labour apparently just screwed up their X access. They still exist as an actual official affiliate. Pride in Labour are just using the opportunity to attack LGBT Labour as part of their ongoing campaign.

Pride in Labour is the latest breakaway group dating from July attempting to push the TA agenda inside Labour, but who regard LGBT Labour as a bunch of traitors because they didn't denounce the Cass Review and Streeting enough. Full story of the drama here:

Fresh party trans row as activists launches ‘alternative’ to LGBT+ Labour
https://labourlist.org/2024/07/labour-trans-row-lgbt-splinter-group/

Note Pride in Labour have 670 followers on X. I think they don't have huge numbers, but are drama llamas. They have sufficient support though to get at least one CLP to back a conference motion so far though.
https://www.prideinlabour.org.uk/post/stockton-north-clp-passes-trans-rights-motion

They are not to be confused with the earlier Labour Campaign for Trans Rights, chaired by Torr Robinson, which morphed into the similar group Labour for Trans rights. They were also splitters from LGBT Labour. Labour Campaign for Trans Rights was behind the trans pledge for candidates in the 2020 Labour leadership election the ones Starmer refused to sign. However I think at least some of those initially involved in this including Torr Robinson have left Labour. The group still exists, but is not doing much.

The dangerous TAs are the ones in LGBT Labour as they are way more effective and have some power in the party. Hopefully Pride In Labour will destabilise and weaken LGBT Labour by attacking it. A misogynistic anti Labour demo from TAs in Liverpool would be very useful indeed in showing how crazy the TAs are.

Note LWD have at least 7 open supporting MPs many more in private apparently. Four of those are minsters.

Shabana Mahmood MP, Birmingham Ladywood, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice
Dame Diana Johnson, MP Hull North & Cottingham, Minister of State (Home Office) - (Minister for Policing, Fire and Crime Prevention).
Feryal Clark, MP, Enfield North. Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology - AI and Digital Government
Jess Phillips MP for Birmingham Yardley, Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Home Office) - (Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls).
Rosie Duffield, MP for Canterbury
Marsha de Cordova, MP Battersea
Tonia Antoniazzi, MP Gower

Particularly important are Shabana Mahmood and Dame Diana Johnson who have been prominent in targeting far right rioters recently. Yes the Minister for Policing is indeed a gender crit which may play out in interesting ways. I suspect if the TAs resort to violence again they might find a frosty reception, but we shall see.
