As we're nearly at the end of the first thread, let's make sure we keep the topic current.

There have been five women now who have spoken to podcasts about the predatory behaviour of Neil Gaiman.

First thread here:

“I’ll tell you what’s wrong with this world: there are far too many servants of lust and nowhere near enough masters of love.”

Where is this wonderful quote from please, Dervel?

I’ll look for it later. I found it as an unattributed quote somewhere and it really stuck with me.

97 days since allegations of sexual assault were made against Neil Gaiman, who has yet to respond.

Yes. It is one of those quotes where the truth of it is sharpened by the eloquence.

Nothing from a Google search comes up for me.
Maybe from a script?
No worries. It's stuck with me now too!

I think it's by this poet called Jonny Ox. I THINK it's his own work - his profile is full of sayings about love, sex, and a bizarre preoccupation with dancing.

He quite likes turning out short phrases. Some are rather lovely, others I find a little bit on the cheesy side - but have a look for yourself:

The thing is, the moment he thinks it's over and tries to step back into the limelight, all his ex-fans will be clamouring for answers. He can never go back and hopefully it will mean that he can't ever do this to anyone again. That's good, but it's not good enough, imo. He should face criminal charges.

Can't believe its100 days tomorrow.

Coincides with worldwide XX day, wearing a little or a lot of red to celebrate women. There's a thread on here.

I've seen someone local to me posting about that on social media, someone who I hadn't realised shared those views. I had t heard of it until this week.

Well, here we are.

100 days since allegations of sexual assault were made against Neil Gaiman, who has yet to respond.

As suggested, I won't post daily from this point, but I will keep dropping the odd tally as we go. Simply because I'm not going to forget.

The 50th anniversary edition of 'The Rats' was published recently. Oddly, it still has Gaiman's foreword from the 40th anniversary. Gaiman isn't mentioned on the back or the cover, though, whereas his name featured prominently on the edition from 10 years ago.

wrongthinker · 10/10/2024 23:20

I don't think this is going to go away anytime soon. His reputation has been pretty much destroyed.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/10/2024 23:47

Thank you for your sterling efforts keeping count, cassandra. Who'd have thought when it started we'd hit the 100, given how digitally active and connected he always was?

Meant to say, this is the James Herbert novel.

I can't read past the TLDR paywall, but it starts well.

turbonerd · 17/10/2024 14:54

I’m sure he feels dreadful. In fact, I hope he does. And not only about being told on.

He could also try to apologise, I guess. Though that might be a step too far. And personally I find these quasi-apologies trotted out insincere and sometimes plain infuriating.

Haven’t read his article, but at a guess he’d churning out some kind of self pitying drivel and be-kind shit.

wrongthinker · 17/10/2024 16:10

Oh the article is not from NG. It's from a writer talking about how hard it was for her to learn that NG was a creep.

Hehe, next time I’ll at least click the link!

hihelenhi · 19/10/2024 10:29

I'm afraid I think this is going to sink into obscurity, mainly the way NG would like. The cancelling, while it's happened, has been far, far too "quiet" for my liking.

Anyway, I'm commenting just to keep the thread from disappearing. We wouldn't want old Neily to think we've forgotten, would we?
