As we're nearly at the end of the first thread, let's make sure we keep the topic current.

There have been five women now who have spoken to podcasts about the predatory behaviour of Neil Gaiman.

First thread here:

Definitely not.

notathenabutcassandra · 19/10/2024 14:14

The only saving grace is that, for it to slink away into obscurity, so must he. And for a narcissist (as he's proven himself to be) that will be unbearable.

It's not justice, but at least he's being denied his need for adoration.

teawamutu · 20/10/2024 09:50

Was talking to late teen DS about all this yesterday. He's a Tumblr user and a huge fan of GO and Sandman.

He's resolved not to watch them on any format that would benefit NG in any way and says the adoring Tumblr fanbase has completely turned and are also gleefully sharing pirate links to all his work.

Apparently building an adoring following via a rigid insistence on rightthink, underdog mentality and cancellation of wrongdoers will really, really bite you in the arse when it turns out you yourself are a wrong 'un. Gratifying.

110 days since allegations of sexual assault were made against Neil Gaiman, who has yet to respond.

Bumping.

notathenabutcassandra · 21/10/2024 13:28

I find it disgusting that GO3 and Amanda Boys are going ahead, and Sandman. I'm not saying that he should be entirely cancelled. But that everyone is allowing him to carry on as normal and keep making money from his projects without having said a word about the women he abused... Speaks volumes about the relative roles of men and women in the world.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 21/10/2024 13:57

Good Omens 3 is still 'paused' as far as I can see.

Indeed.

Especially when you compare this with the way various women writers have lost their careers simply for saying that men are men and women are women, and we can't change sex, however we present ourselves to the world.

Jenny Lindsay, Gillian Philps, for example.

Wow, that's some piece of research and writing!

....For most of the summer, Neil’s many many many many many many survivors, both known and concealed, have been watching a majority of his A-list croneys and blurb-boasting besties look the other way, presumably wishing it would all go away.
Dear friends and colleagues and respected peers who were in-the-know at least as much as I was:
Why, even now, are you still pretending this is none of your concern and waiting out the news cycle? It DOES concern you! All of you.....

Powerful stuff.

And excellent illustrations - I loved the Private Eye piece, which restores a bit of faith in the Eye.

notathenabutcassandra · 24/10/2024 22:58

I know I've said this countless times... But now that the GO announcement has been made, apparently a statement is finally happening... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Binglebong · 25/10/2024 00:43

I think it is a good compromise. The fans get to finish the story but NG won't get to glory in it - and I think by this stage the glory and adoration are the biggest thing for him.

WandsOut · 25/10/2024 08:27

Silence is violence Neil.
What a coward he is.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 25/10/2024 08:31

Good to see the reason clearly stated towards the top of the article, not a vague allusion tucked away at the end.

YellowAsteroid · 25/10/2024 10:35

So it's starting to shift from a ripple to a wave. Good.

I'd love to think so.

Curious that a series written by a sexual predator is out of the question but a feature-length episode is fine, though. What's the justification there? Genuine question.

YellowAsteroid · 25/10/2024 13:35

It may be about contractual obligations and this was the cheapest way out.

Where do you get the impression there will be a statement?

hihelenhi · 01/11/2024 09:08

I don't think any statement is happening, is it? (not that I expected it would; it hasn't previously). As predicted, I think the idea is the accusations are going to quietly sink into obscurity. Hence am bumping.

No, we won't!

Sorry, Neil, but it ain't happening. You're still a big old manipulative creep and sexual abuser who preys on vulnerable women.

OP posts:
Villagetoraiseachild · 01/11/2024 18:24

But how many days, for the record?
The bodies of women keep the score.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 01/11/2024 18:28

122 days since allegations of sexual assault were made against Neil Gaiman.

My contact is in touch with a member of his team - they all sound fairly despondent, apparently they've repeatedly been told that there is something coming, then it never materialises. Sounds like even those who work with him are starting to lose faith. This is a good thing.
