5 males on the field. Talk of a camera ban.

The Flying Bats football team has won the North West Sydney Women’s Premier League grand final 5-4.
They finished the competition undefeated.
Over the season they scored 76 goals with only 8 scored against them.
David, who was at the grand final game on the weekend, spoke to Ben Fordham on 2GB and said that before the game, security guards were checking bags for camera equipment. He surmised that the reason they were doing this was because they didn’t want anyone capturing video evidence of the males thrashing the women. He also claimed that there were very loud boos when the final whistle blew.
It is incredible that the North West Sydney Premier League deemed it appropriate and fair for this male dominated team to continually humiliate the female players week in and week out despite their protests.
To their credit, 2 teams forfeited each game against the Bats.
There needs to be a lot of serious reflection by the association and clubs for next season.
They need to send a message loud and clear such misogyny and the erasure of women’s sex-based rights will not be tolerated.

I say let this one play out. Eventually there will be more men than women on the field, and sense will prevail. Sucks for the female players in the meantime, but sometimes just letting the madness unfold to it's natural conclusion is the thing that will work

Oops meant to say 💯 to this

Flying Bats. Bats. Mice who identify as birds.

Oh your not wrong 😂

How can the women play on the team with them? Shameless cheaters too! Unless they are being forced to? But doesn't sound like it!

I wonder about this too. What can they possibly gain by being part of such a blatantly unfair event? It's not as if there's big prize money to be competed for! It would be interesting if the players get interviewed after the match, but I suspect they'll be trying to dodge any publicity, like the modest heroines of sport that they are.

I know people hate the Daily Mail, but they've also done an article on this, and included plenty of photos.

Isn’t that Riley Dennis in that photo? He plays for them I thought.

Yes, Riley seems to have extraordinary connections and protections from multiple sources in Australia.

Ironic that they trot out the term N@z! to describe their opponents. The current environment in Australia essentially silences dissent. People are too scared to speak out because you’ll be ostracised personally and professionally. Lucy Zelic is one of the few voices and she is piled on as hateful every time she expresses her concern or the safety of women. Apparently the 5-4 score line is ‘proof’ that it’s a close competition. Somehow they conceded as many goals in that one game as they did in the whole season, but I’m sure it’s all completely above board. The article says the Bats made a host of changes towards the end of the game - brought all the boys on to seal the victory perhaps?

I think some of the clubs were trying to organise a breakaway league and Football NSW intervened to prevent it. They want to force women to play against transgender opponents. Actually force them. I’m so grateful that my daughter doesn’t play football but my niece does. She’s a good player but only 5’4 and maybe 45 kg. She sustained a season ending injury last year after a tackle by an 80kg woman. What damage could a transgender player do!!?

BunfightBetty · 27/08/2024 00:24

Fucking bastards. If there's nothing to hide, why ban cameras?

I'd love to see the other teams turn up to each match, line up to start and then, as the kick-off whistle is blown, turn and all walk silently back off the pitch. Each and every match, week after week, team after team.

Then at the end of the season have an unofficial awards evening where the second placed team in the league / top women’s team gets a trophy.

This along with the Tickle vs Giggle case; it is beyond ridiculous. Women are not allowed anything of their own.

Sadly, six teams have forfeited already. I think that from the report from the meeting that the Football organisation had with the teams, that it is also a possibility that the organisation responsible for the competition will simply let the Northern Sydney League collapse.

I suspect that unless a specific sporting law case goes through that these domestically run competitions will play it safe against a discrimination case like Giggle has been through with Tickle. After all, Tickle has the hockey competition sewn up, we know that Rugby will be taken to court domestically by Kristi Miller, there is Mouncey in AFL and that is just off the top of my head.

I really do think that Albanese needs to listen and start to act. Maybe it will take getting Giggle to High Court though.

In the meantime, more and more women are taking notice. While more and more women and girls are being harmed.

I didn't think there was a problem with either rugby code, but there is, in Australia?

This is interesting. It’s one thing to be cautious about getting hit with a discrimination case yourself. Another, though, to actively prevent women from forming their own league.

quixote9 · 26/08/2024 11:18

It's not the women who are humiliated.

It's the cheaters who didn't want the evidence filmed.

Absolutely, 100%. It’s the male cheats and their lickspittle enablers who have demeaned themselves.

World rugby is for international comps. It is up to the countries to adopt domestically.

Miller is a nearly 60 year old male, ex national aquatic (maybe higher) champion, who plays for the Broken Hill Women’s team. And hates being reminded that not one female player is close to Miller’s age. Certainly no peri menopausal or menopausal women.

And sadly some media pundits in Australia think Miller is the ultimate voice is sports for people with transgender identities. Particularly Peter Fitzsimmons, who is an arse but people do seem to listen to him.

This is a nice idea, but it will still feel unfair if there was a knockout element - this team were just the one lucky enough to meet the Bats last, you can't even gauge how good you are, really, against the other teams.

It takes all the fun out of it at all. They aren't just causing a blip in an otherwise fun season, they are ruining the competition completely.

I agree. But at the moment, much of Australian sports seem to be in denial. Even Kieran Perkins at the top is all for including males in female sports teams as far as I remember. Which surprised me.

littlbrowndog · 27/08/2024 10:33

Ruining sport for women and girls. And women not allowed to speak

bit like Afghanistan

duc748 · 27/08/2024 10:43

Any high-profile Aussie sportsmen speaking up about this? Cricketers? NRL and AFL guys?

Hopefully, the injuries data compiled by World Rugby can be used in support of a court case. A court would be mad to award compensation, or force a league to include male players, when it's very well know that there is serious risk of physical injury to women players.

You are sadly assuming that they care about injuries suffered by female players. We saw how that worked out in the Olympics.

If I’ve understood this format correctly, there is a standard league competition first. Everyone plays everyone (twice?). So the women’s teams could just play that, forfeit the games against the males, and then not bother with the knock out phase at the end. Team with second most points are champions.

it is, of course, ludicrous that a simpler solution can’t be found. Like not allowing males to play contact sports against women.
