Manchester Police not to attend Pride in uniform

'Greater Manchester Police will not take part in the city's pride parade this year, the Manchester Evening News can now reveal.
The force, which last year was asked not to participate in uniform by organisers, will not be a presence during the 2024 parade on Saturday (August 24) due to 'operational reasons', with officers once again told not to wear any pride-related badges, flags or emblems.'
'It is understood that officers on-duty during the Manchester Pride weekend have once again been told not to customise their uniforms with any emblems, badges or pride flags. This is because of the force's 'overall focus on professional standards' and for the presentation of officers to 'remain consistent' and for them to be 'appropriately and equipped to respond to an incident or emergency'.'
...
'....last year, in 2023, Manchester Pride again asked officers not to participate in the parade in uniform to 'reflect a commitment to inclusivity, creating a safe space for all, and recognising the unique challenges faced by further marginalised groups within the LGBTQ+ community.'.

I know right, remember that time when feminists had to ask the police to stop showing their over the top commitment to the support of women and their commitment to ending VAWG all the time...oh, wait.

👏

End of Police Cars painted with rainbows at who knows what expense while bleating they don't have the funds to police properly I hope.

Partisan policing is NOT what the public want, expect or agree to fund with their taxes, it should never, ever have come to this.

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 22/08/2024 21:54

Well this is good news

PurpleSparkledPixie · 22/08/2024 21:59

hmmm

Pride - don't come in your uniform as it scares the special ones.
Police - dont tell us what to do. We won't wear anything "special/rainbowy" either then.

Didn't they get a new no nonsense Chief Constable(?) a couple of years ago?

TheMamaBear · 22/08/2024 22:06

The wokies will furious, I can't wait to see it.

Well done GMP 👏

Wasn't 'Pride month' back in June?

Seems to me it's now a year-round event, Apologies if I've accidentally picked up a zombie thread. The original date/time of posting isn't visible on the phone app.

Gawd. There is no bloody respite!

PurpleSparkledPixie · 22/08/2024 22:25

My local city has their parade on 14th September which is nowhere near Pride month. I reckon it's a deliberate ploy to keep it ongoing for months on end.

You must have missed the memo. Stonewall announced in march that it's been renamed "pride eternity" now! There is no escape!

Manchester Pride weekend is this weekend.
A friend is going dressed to slay. He will enjoy three days of partying and shagging. I really don’t get it.

Yeah ... I may be reading it wrong, but it looks like GMP officers prettied up their uniforms for the 2019 parade. Every year since then, the organisers have asked them not to do that. Chief Constable Watson took over in 2021 and he doesn't want them to either.

So there will be no rainbow uniforms, as agreed by everyone, for the fourth year running. Wow! What a story! 😂

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2024 07:31

True, the story has been an attempt to create a more dramatic situation than is.

What caught my eye in particular, though, was 'recognising the unique challenges faced by further marginalised groups within the LGBTQ+ community.'

That's a nod to the fact that not all LGBTQ people are of one opinion, which is refreshing.

My sons been to 2 Prides this year 😂and is on his way to Manchester today for his 3rd one

NitroNine · 23/08/2024 11:35

You’d hope recognising the unique challenges faced by further marginalised groups within the LGBTQ+ community was a reference to, for example, stop & search disproportionately targeting young black men. Or tensions between the GRT community & police over clearance of unauthorised encampments.

You can’t help but suspect/worry they’re talking about middle-aged middle-class white males who identify as women though 💔
