North Yorkshire Police apolgise to the LGBTQ community

I can't see a thread of this. It's from Feb 2024. Peter Tatchell asked them to apologise so of course they did. The word community needs scrapping, who the hell is the community they consult.

North Yorkshire Police has today apologised for any historical discriminatory behaviour that any members of the LGBTQ+ community were subjected to by any member of the force.The apology was issued in response to a request from the Peter Tatchell, Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, for all police forces to apologise for their historical treatment of the LGBTQ+ community. While acknowledging his gratitude for North Yorkshire Police’s current supportive policies towards the LGBT+ community he requested that “to draw a line under the past extreme persecution of LGBT+ people by UK police, including your force, I hope you will agree that some expression of remorse is appropriate... so that we can move forward together.”

What on earth was the point of that performative apology, other than for P Tatchell to show how much power he hads over the police?

No such thing as a LGBTQXYZ community. Especially for lesbians.

tbh, I'm not too sure I'd see value in an apology from each Police Force for current and historic wrongs in their treatment of women.

But, complete agreement on envying the clout, performative as it is.

What constitutes a community?

Can one be a community of one?

Can one represent oneself as the only member of a community of one?

And do you have to commit to one community or can you run around representing them all?

What will it take for Thatchell to be acknowledged for what he is?
Some of the worst offenders are GB News who has him on all the time.

Tatchell has been quite open about who he is and yet he still is allowed/ encouraged to speak for LGB people, without their consent.

Ask why someone like Peter Tatchell has influence over someone in a police force? Why would someone have that power?
