‘Bumble fumble’: online dating apps struggle as people swear off swiping

I don't understand your point. A shift from interminable swiping towards meeting through shared interests doesn't seem obviously batshit.

No33 · 17/08/2024 17:50

I am confused as to what your point is? You like dating apps?

While thats true, Im referrring to the whole sordid industry, the ludicrous labels, the terminology, the language , the whole damn shebang
"In May, the dating app Bumble, launched as the feminist Tinder in 2014, ran what it called an anti-celibacy advertising campaign. It featured a woman attempting to “swear off dating” and become a nun – only to find herself lusting after a hunky convent gardener.
The backlash to the “Bumble fumble” was swift. Lainey Molnar, a celibacy-forward Instagram personality, said the company was “gaslighting women who refuse to participate in hook-up culture”.
etc
In short how did this Logans Run sickness ever take hold . It was and is an obscenity

Sorry, I still don't get it,.and I'm afraid the Logan's Run reference doesn't really help. Perhaps you could try explaining what you think, in complete sentences?

twentysevendresses · 17/08/2024 18:08

I have absolutely NO idea what point you're trying to make or prove. None of your posts make sense.

Perhaps start again??

Logan's Run = killing people at 30

You - don't like dating apps?

News: dating app industry is shit

The problem with apps is simply that the moment that two app users get into a relationship, they stop using the app and the app loses revenue.
There's not a lot of incentive for dating apps to be effective. They want users to keep swiping and keep paying in the hope that the next profile they see will be someone they like.
I'm on apps and they're full of scammers and fake accounts. You often have to pay to see who's liked you or even see or send a message.
That said, I don't think theyre all bad. I've met some lovely people through them, but the apps have to be a difficult place to meet people if they want to make money

Catsmere · 18/08/2024 00:08

Is it dating apps pushing hookup "culture" and mindless one-night stands, pushing the idea that women shouldn't even think of saying we're not interested in random fucking, that you're referring to, OP? That is very reminiscent of Logan's Run (and for PP, the death age in the book is 21, not 30 as in the film). I've never dated, or even looked at one of these apps, so I'm asking as a complete outsider.
