This is a spot-on speech by Australian Senator Claire Chandler. The IOC hates women!

Misogyny. It's all misogyny.

Litterpicking · 16/08/2024 09:04

Thanks for posting that amazing speech.

Brilliant speech, made me cry! Thanks OP.

Wow, she couldn't have been clearer - excellent speech, pulled no punches (sorry 😉).

Jadedandlost · 16/08/2024 09:27

Amazing speech!

Excellent speech - such a pleasure to listen to such an articulate and clear woman.

It never fails to astonish me that we currently live in a world where stating the sheer, unvarnished truth is now seen as radical, or wrong-think. How the hell did we get here?

Hopefully this situation has peaked a few more people. Laurel Hubbard is what made me sit up and pay attention. Much later than many on here I know.

ExitPursuedByABare · 16/08/2024 09:36

👏👏👏💪

Chefs kiss to that lady. How is it possible to disagree? What madness is this? As the senator rightly says, the days of obfuscation are coming to an end. People will demand answers and piffling crap about passports will soon be seen as exactly what it is. If you don't give a shit because you're a man, use your brain and imagine if your wife, daughter or sister was punched in the head by a male athlete.

Wonderful. Just...wonderful. Hopefully we'll have competition for the label of TERF Island in the future.

Claire Chandler has been a very calm and assured voice in the Australian parliament for a while. This speech was brilliant as it also pull it together nicely. Even Gillard's impact and the fact that so many treat Gillard as being a feminist icon.

Some one posted a German language article on another thread which suggested that it was related to corruption.

The Algerians wanted a medal and this was their best shot. There is someone at the IOC who is Algerian and acts as a power broker for a collective of African nations.

They were willing to support Bach change the IOC constitution to allow him to serve a third term as long as the Algerians got their way.

But the backlash makes it likely that the IOC will have to change so there's was no incentive to continue to support Bach. Hence him having to effectively concede defeat. (he was out of the length of his tenure so it's hardly a resignation even though it's been framed as one).

I have no idea if it's true, but it makes sense. It's politics. And women are low on the agenda of politics and power.

Excellent speech from Chandler, does anyone know what kind of reception she got?

Her clarity is excellent. Thank you
