Briefing and Q&A for journalists on the Olympic boxing situation and the science of DSDs in sport.

I saw lots of notifications for this, but after it had happened.

I cant find any link to it. It was on zoom, so thought there might be a recording.

Did anyone watch and / or have a link to a recording or transcript?

Thanks

Just watched - it was really clear and informative. I think the Guardian might have watched this as their journalist Daniel Boffey has produced a good piece raising some of the issues:

One thing I wished Sex Matters had got the athletes to explain to journalists is that sex testing isn't intrusive to female athletes any more.

Mark Adams at IOC was trying to claim in his pressers that sex testing was some kind of "terrible" experience. He said the IOC don't want to "go back to the bad old days of sex testing, which was a terrible thing to do." In reality it's a quick cheek swab is much less invasive than a COVID test.

The BBC is on the same path with this article. Still working hard to ensure 'balance', but getting much closer to reporting the right things. Emma Hilton and Sex Matters clearly quoted!

That BBC piece is trying to convince readers you need to measure the size of someone's clitoris to know if they are female.

And it is really unclear as to what the actual scandal is about.

It infers that the boxers are women with a dsd despite mentioning they may have testes and no uterus or cervix - which would make them male with a dsd.

It is just too hard for the BBC to investigate what a biological woman is if it starts with the premis that how you are socialised is who you are until your puberty doesn't start. Then you are whatever you are socialised as + dsd.

If this is also the stance of the IOC then female sport is doomed. We should all just dress up our sons and groom them into future female champions.

And our girls well pff no chance. Good for egg donation though! Funnily enough when it comes to egg donation there are no gender eligibility tests.

Quite a few of these images are now being circulated. So it is going more mainsteam.

If you are on twitter and search #XX lots of images showing how sportswomen are making this sign directly to cameras.

In the meantime facebook has apparently banned the use of #XX

Should have said well done to Sex Matters for putting together facts for journalists and helped get a change in reporting.

But shocking that reporters cant be bothered to do their own fact checking and just rely on unsubstantiated tweets to "report" until they are spoonfed information.
